The 2002 shot has been a long-time favorite of mine! 10 years to be exact!

By Marsha, Genesee/Aura (Marsha) on Tuesday, November 20, 2012 - 07:41 am:

Oooooh, the ghost shaft!

By Janie T. (Bobbysgirl) on Tuesday, November 20, 2012 - 07:46 am:

Bird experts, I'm curious here, 2007 is a Downey Woodpecker and 2006 a Hairy Woodpecker, looks like the same bird or is it?

By Deb S. (Usedtobeayooper) on Tuesday, November 20, 2012 - 07:47 am:

Forgot to say happy birthday to Brenda Leigh today!! Hope it's a happy one :-)

By Deb S. (Usedtobeayooper) on Tuesday, November 20, 2012 - 07:49 am:

Janie, Downy's are smaller than Hairy woodpeckers!

By Capt. Paul (Eclogite) on Tuesday, November 20, 2012 - 07:54 am:

From The Cornell Lab of Ornithology:

Quote:

Hairy Woodpeckers are larger than Downy Woodpeckers and have a larger bill that is almost as long as the entire head. Hairy Woodpeckers have a longer and more distinct black mark on the shoulder, and in most populations, completely white outer tail feathers. A Downy Woodpecker's “whinny” call descends in pitch toward the end, unlike the Hairy Woodpecker's call.

Hope that helps, Janie! The Cornell website is one of my favourites to visit this time of year....

Happy Birthday, Brenda!

Strange...I posted this morning around 6:(something) and it disappeared. Got up early for nothing.;< Just kidding, I got up early because of a stuffy nose and cough. hack/hack

By John W Anderson (Wd8rth) on Tuesday, November 20, 2012 - 09:46 am:

Looks like the Alder is in the same area that the Mesquite grounded back in 1989.

By Janie T. (Bobbysgirl) on Tuesday, November 20, 2012 - 09:48 am:

Thanks Capt & Deb! Quite a bit of differences between the two types that the pictures didn't show completely. :)

"Good Afternoon" 1998,2004 & 2005

By Waveaction (Lakelover) on Tuesday, November 20, 2012 - 04:29 pm:

Shirley, you have to wait for the question. Which I think is really unworthy of the Pasty Cam pictures. Who cares who get's the Early Bird? I think this game takes away from the reason for this site.

"Just saying."

By Shirley Waggoner (Shirlohio) on Tuesday, November 20, 2012 - 05:32 pm:

I don't know, Waveaction, I got a 'whole' bird the other morning without giving an answer. It was just because I got here first that day, as often occurs for others too.;)
It just happens sometimes, as Charlie has explained in the past...some early posts get 'stepped' on. No problem.

By Deb S. (Usedtobeayooper) on Tuesday, November 20, 2012 - 08:49 pm:

Ya know, waveaction (Joanie), they made up the game for the early bird a few years ago so that people had to wait for the slideshow to come on before posting...unless the slideshow isn't up before 8. Then it's first come, first serve. Most of us enjoy the game. I'm sorry that you don't.
You never have anything good to say about the site or those of us who enjoy it? You don't even comment on the Cam Notes, which is what Yoopers come on here to see...the pictures. The What'sUP page is for "other conversations" and part of that is the Early Bird contest. It's fun!

By Michael Du Long (Mikie) on Tuesday, November 20, 2012 - 10:39 pm:

Yes Deb, you are right. I have been the awardee of many birds from this sight. Proud of every one of them. Been thinking of framing them and putting them on the shop wall. Jimmie the fat white cat licks his lips when he sees my collection. So far he hasn't been able to get to them.

By Waveaction (Lakelover) on Wednesday, November 21, 2012 - 07:05 am:

I knew that would get a "rise" out of some. "To each their own." Maybe you should just send me an email next time like the "acceptable use policy" has stated.

By mickill mouse (Ram4) on Wednesday, November 21, 2012 - 07:10 am:

not only 'yoopers' come out here to see the pictures ;O)

By mickill mouse (Ram4) on Wednesday, November 21, 2012 - 07:30 am:

just because a person is not a 'yooper' they are excluded? (just a question...that is all i meant..)

Mary says: Not at all, Mckill Mouse! Yooper or not, we're here for everyone's viewing pleasure! :-)

By mickill mouse (Ram4) on Wednesday, November 21, 2012 - 07:44 am:

how about being a 'yooper' from your parents both being born and raised in calumet but, left to go downstate for work, where i was born and raised..just asking a question...that is all.

By Diana P. (Diana) on Wednesday, November 21, 2012 - 09:09 am:

Mickill, sounds to me like you're a Yooper by blood, AND also a Yooper because you live in the UP now!

As far as I know, Mickill, anyone who appreciates the UP, loves the UP, misses the UP ... is welcome to visit this wonderful site. :-)

Mary says: Yes indeed, Diana P., EVERYONE is welcome and encouraged to visit here at Pasty Central, whether a full-fledged Yooper, a transplant Yooper or a Yooper wanna-be, we're here for those that love the U.P. :-)

By Shirley Waggoner (Shirlohio) on Wednesday, November 21, 2012 - 09:21 am:

Boy, I sure hope you're right, Diana, because I'm not a Yooper, I'm originally from Tennessee....and proud of it!;)

Mary says: Not to worry, Shirley...you're safe! ;-)

By mickill mouse (Ram4) on Wednesday, November 21, 2012 - 09:59 am:

thanks diana..

By Waveaction (Lakelover) on Wednesday, November 21, 2012 - 10:25 am:

If memory serves me right, I don't think Charlie is a Yooper either. :)

By Shirley Waggoner (Shirlohio) on Wednesday, November 21, 2012 - 06:37 pm:

Thank you, Mary! :-) I do enjoy Pasty...both 'pages'!
