Dan Severs recently made a trip UP North here to the Keweenaw and of course made a stop to snap a few photos of the Mackinac Bridge. Some people have all the luck, I tell you, because not only did he get a good shot of the Big Mac, but also captured a freighter as it was going under and headed on it's way to other ports on the Great Lakes. I have no clue what freighter that is, so I'm going to rely on some of our resident "boat nerds" to enlighten us on her name and other information. Thanks in advance for helping out with that.

As you already know from yesterday's Pasty Cam note via Charlie...our weather here in the Keweenaw has drastically changed in the last couple days. We went from 57° on Thanksgiving Day, to the 20's right now, with a pretty good dumping of snow. We'll have snow pictures for you, starting on Monday, so stay tuned for a good blast of the white stuff! :->

Good morning, Mary, and everyone! It's cold in the Ohio Valley too, but thankfully, no snow.
I did a painting that closely resembles the second photo. Believe me, that bridge is not an easy 'subject'.;> The ship looks to be a 'saltie'. Maybe those with better eyes can idenify it.

Michigan is very lucky to have this great achievement in construction. I've done the Mackinac Bridge Walk 4 times.

Love, love , love these pictures! 11 degrees here in Linn Co. Iowa!

By Eddyfitz (Eddyfitz) on Saturday, November 24, 2012 - 08:12 am:

I do not know the exact name of the freighter is a SALTIE, i.e. a foreign ship and 4 unloading cranes can be seen as it passes under the Big Mac. They carry their own cranes so that they can unload containers in any port they may enter anywhere in the world. This is quite unlike great lakes freighters that mostly are self unloader bulk carriers.

Those cranes are what I was going by, Eddyfitz.
BTW, I do know there's a "t" in identify.:-]
