Donna, the young juveniles of the year, when they are molting into their first 'adult' winter (nonbreeding) plumage often have this light pale gray head for a spell...looks very 'whiteish' in contrast....what we are seeing in these shots. Doesn't help identification when just one individual of a gregarious species is seen.
