Who doesn't remember raking up the leaves in the yard and jumping in them or tossing them in the air all around you like this group of youngsters did recently. Alicia Reed said this was one of the last camping trips for the year and what a fun way for the kids to end it, playing in the leaves, smiling, laughing and having fun. They're all dressed for cooler U.P. weather, so I bet they sat around the campfire later on, with a cup of hot chocolate and telling scary stories. Such are the joys of childhood, carefree days outdoors with good friends and family.

Oh, those were the days my friends!!

We were out and about yesterday and I saw a young mom out raking a huge pile of leaves and it brought me back to my grade school days. I told my hubby that I wonder if my dad got mad when we'd come home and totally wreck his pile because you just couldn't NOT jump into it, lol. He never said anything, though. Just let us have our fun!!

"We thought they'd never end." ;)

Yep, remember those times well. We had lots of trees in our yard, so lots of raking and playing.

.... We'd sing and dance forever and a day.

Back then I'd see a pile of leaves like this and think "sheesh, what fun to run around". Today when I see a pile of leaves I think "sheesh, what a load of work ahead of me"....

Actually we don't have leaves to rake here, but we do have these good-for-nothing live oaks with their little leaves which I dislike greatly. The leaves get into every crack and crevice on my car and even some places I can't reach. Give me real Keweenaw tree leaves anyday!!!

Our leaf shenanigans was to rake them up by the swing set pile them up high, get swinging pretty good then JUMP!

By Shirley Waggoner (Shirlohio) on Tuesday, October 16, 2012 - 11:01 am:

uh....I forgot the next line, Capt. :)

You think live oaks are bad with their small leaves, what if you had a big ol' sycamore in your yard which produces dinner plate size leaves that NEVER disintegrate? Plus, I think they're made out of leather....the mower blade won't touch 'em! :(

(Shirlohio)....

Ever try Gator Mulching Blades?

By Thomas Baird (Thomas) on Tuesday, October 16, 2012 - 03:16 pm:

Definitely having fun.

Heikki, thanks for the tip, however I no longer am able to mow, have to hire someone else to do it.:(

Capt. Paul--I totally agree with you about live oak leaves being a pain. They slide right thru the tines of a rake and are so slippery you have to be careful walking on them. I have a friend down here in Florida with a sycamore tree and as Shirley said they're as big as a plate and tough but at least a rake can get hold of them. Too bad they aren't saleable because it doesn't take a lot of them to make a bushel.
