Amanda & Brian Cadwell were busy getting their critters ready for the cooler weather to come. Making sure they have shelter and food set aside and of course interacting with them, too. That first photo is Brian giving the horses some treats and it looks like they all know the routine, since they're gathered around him waiting patiently. Then after treats it was time to take a break in the sun, where they were joined by some cows nearby, too...lazy fall days on the farm. Brian doesn't leave any of the animals out, as he treats this good looking chick to some holding, too. Maybe he's really an animal whisperer? ;->

The last photo here today, comes from our Webmaster, Charlie Hopper. That's Shadow doing a point pose, which he held for over a minute, allowing Charlie time to pull out his phone to preserve the moment in time. Notice how he appears to be balanced on two legs, both rear and front left legs raised. All this, thanks to a squirrel that Shadow spotted up in a tree. Nice pointing Shadow!

Oh my Gosh totally in love with these pictures today!! How Bob, Michelle, and myself live our lives as well!! Perfect timing for the perfect pictures!! Happy Birthday today to Michelle!!

By Deb S. (Usedtobeayooper) on Saturday, September 29, 2012 - 08:11 am:

Definitely a busy time of year for people with all of these animals to care for.

I bet Janie's gonna LOVE these pictures!!

By Thomas Baird (Thomas) on Saturday, September 29, 2012 - 08:12 am:

My wife would like those horses, and the dog is nice, 2.

By Deb S. (Usedtobeayooper) on Saturday, September 29, 2012 - 08:16 am:

Sorry, Janie. Your comment wasn't up there when I went in to say something. But I knew you'd love it.

Happy Birthday to Michelle!!

By Janie T. (Bobbysgirl) on Saturday, September 29, 2012 - 08:17 am:

The picture with the chicken reminds me of a Harley Davidson T-shirt I gave Bob years ago, it read, "Ridin Hogs and Pickin Up Chicks".

By Debi Steinle (Debi) on Saturday, September 29, 2012 - 09:10 am:

Not sure, Mary, but looking closer at the picture of Shadow, I think both back legs are on the ground. At first glance, it does look like the left leg is up, but look again. It still is a cute picture tho! Nice looking furry dog!!!

Mary says: Take a closer look Debi...
It's definitely UP!
It's definitely UP! :->

By Shirley Waggoner (Shirlohio) on Saturday, September 29, 2012 - 10:06 am:

Love the pictures 'cause I love animals! However, Brian needs to instruct one of their horses on how to pose properly.;>
Ahhh....."the 'Shadow' nose"!:)
Thanks Amanda, Brian, and Charlie!

By Just me (Jaby) on Saturday, September 29, 2012 - 10:31 am:

Great pics today. Being an animal lover , I truly enjoyed them all!One of my dreams as a child was to have a horse some day. My uncle raised horses and I just loved going to his farm. That dream did not come true-but I still love horses.

By Shirley Waggoner (Shirlohio) on Saturday, September 29, 2012 - 10:51 am:

Mary, I hate to disagree with you but I'm afraid I have to side with Deb...both back feet appear to be on the ground, even in the close-up. Too bad the shadow can't be erased. (no pun intended);)

Mary says: I guess you'll have to disagree with the person who took the picture and was right there, seeing it with his own eyes. When Charlie sent me the photo, he said: "Notice he is balanced on two legs, both rear and front left legs are raised." Guess we'll have to wait for Charlie to chime in. :->

By Shirley Waggoner (Shirlohio) on Saturday, September 29, 2012 - 10:53 am:

oops, sorry Debi, I left the 'i' off your name.

By Donna (Donna) on Saturday, September 29, 2012 - 11:07 am:

WOW....I LOVE these pics, and Brian is married to THE Animal Whisperer!!!

By Debi Steinle (Debi) on Saturday, September 29, 2012 - 11:34 am:

Thanks for the support, Shirley. Didn't mean to start an argument here. Maybe I'm not looking at it right! It's really hard to tell with the shadow by Shadow's back left foot. No big deal! Still a cute picture!!

By Shirley Waggoner (Shirlohio) on Saturday, September 29, 2012 - 11:35 am:

LOL! Mary. Best we don't argue with Charlie...he may sic Shadow on us. ;)

By Shirley Waggoner (Shirlohio) on Saturday, September 29, 2012 - 12:03 pm:

Don't mean to keep wasting space here, but Debi, I'm beginning to see the difference in Shadow's 2 back legs....what appeared at first (to me) is that he's standing 'spread eagle' in the rear, but now I think I can see his (small) bent knee on the left one. Maybe I need new glasses.
>OO<

By mickill mouse (Ram4) on Saturday, September 29, 2012 - 01:08 pm:

both back legs are on the ground. Love all the pictures.

By Mary Drew at Pasty Central (Mdrew) on Saturday, September 29, 2012 - 04:29 pm:

For those of you that are saying both of Shadow's back legs are on the ground, explain to me what the appendage sticking out just under his rear end is then? That's his left leg, held in the upright position, bent at the knee (do dogs have knees?), with the lower part of the leg and paw pointing toward the ground.
Here's a photo with some arrows to help you see the leg upright.

Shadow

Shirley Waggoner (Shirlohio) on Saturday, September 29, 2012 - 04:52 pm:

Mary, after closer inspection I agreed (see above). Boy! I'll bet Shadow and Charlie didn't realize this morning, how popular they'd both be by the end of the day. ;> Yep, doggies have knees.....I think. lol!

By Mary Drew at Pasty Central (Mdrew) on Saturday, September 29, 2012 - 05:29 pm:

I had seen your post Shirley, but there were still doubters, so I thought a picture with arrows would help others to see it, too. I can see how it looked like both legs were on the ground, except for that "appendage" there, unless Shadow has a third little leg? :-)
Thanks for clarifying if doggies have knees or not...I almost called that lower leg joint an elbow, too, because it bends like one...ha, ha.

I'm sure Charlie never thought that he and Shadow were going to be the "talk of the day".

By Deb S. (Usedtobeayooper) on Saturday, September 29, 2012 - 05:44 pm:

To me they still look like they're both on the ground, lol. What do I know?

By Shirley Waggoner (Shirlohio) on Saturday, September 29, 2012 - 06:55 pm:

I think you're right, Mary, the front legs have knees, the back ones have elbows. Reckon we should call their back legs, arms?
Sorry, Deb, looks like Mary won this one.:>

By Roger (Rog1) on Saturday, September 29, 2012 - 07:51 pm:

Or as Gallagher (google it) used to ask: "If your knees bent the other way, what would a chair look like?"

By Janie T. (Bobbysgirl) on Saturday, September 29, 2012 - 08:22 pm:

Actually on Shadow's rear leg that's his stifle, not the knee.

By FRNash/PHX, AZ (Frnash) on Saturday, September 29, 2012 - 08:27 pm:

stifle (noun): the joint between the femur and tibia in a quadruped; corresponds to the human knee.

By Shirley Waggoner (Shirlohio) on Saturday, September 29, 2012 - 08:46 pm:

"Stifle" I thought that's what Archie Bunker said to his 'Dingbat' Edith.
G'night y'all.

By Janie T. (Bobbysgirl) on Saturday, September 29, 2012 - 08:50 pm:

Stifle is the correct term to use when referring to horse or dog. Ask any Vet and not Google.

By mickill mouse (Ram4) on Saturday, September 29, 2012 - 09:20 pm:

to google is fun....

By Just me (Jaby) on Saturday, September 29, 2012 - 09:45 pm:

I think both back paws are on the ground. lolol Beautiful dog!

By Mike Schneider (Upmike) on Saturday, September 29, 2012 - 09:48 pm:

Cool pics and you all are awesome!

By Uncle Chuck (Unclechuck) on Saturday, September 29, 2012 - 10:21 pm:

Great Pics, HAPPY BIRTHDAY MICHELLE!

By Charlie at Pasty Central (Chopper) on Sunday, September 30, 2012 - 07:04 am:

Boy, I missed seeing this last night! Out all day on Saturday, just now checking yesterday's Cam Notes.

The picture of Shadow reminded me of that classic optical illusion which causes discomfort when you try to resolve it without isolating one end from the other:

illusion
I have to apologize to Mary, because we had not spoken since I first sent her the picture, when I was mistakenly convinced that Shadow was standing on two legs. Before it was even published Saturday morning, Edie and I realized that he did in fact have 3 paws firmly touching the ground. So Mary was defending my original assertion, after we had independently come to the opposite conclusion. We had no idea it would spark a debate.

One last note: the dark shadow on Shadow's side is actually Edie standing closer to him at the moment I snapped the picture, during our walk in the woods. Looks like that might have created the confusion.

So I have to conclude that it's all Edie's fault ;->

Omgosh, Charlie! I was reading this post and laughing about how everybody had an opinion on this one. To me, there was no doubt that 3 paws were on the ground, but I wasnt' there. Anyway, my point to this was, you made me crack up when you said it was all Edie's fault. My hubby and I thought that comment was awesome, lolol!!

By Shirley Waggoner (Shirlohio) on Sunday, September 30, 2012 - 09:16 am:

Thanks for clearing that up, Charlie. The nice thing about it was that it was a good clean fun discussion. :>

By Deb S. (Usedtobeayooper) on Sunday, September 30, 2012 - 12:35 pm:

Isn't that the truth, Shirley? It was fun to have a discussion about it with nobody getting crabby about it. We all just had our own opinions and nobody lost their tempers. Good, clean fun.........
