Copper Harbor folks are some hardy Yoopers for sure, the 10th annual Chili Cookoff at the Grant Township Park was held this past weekend. They encouraged everyone to come, rain or shine and to bring blankets, as they'd also have a bonfire there help keep everyone warm... not to mention some HOT chili and cornbread that might do the trick. Quite a few donned their Yooper chooks ('tuque' in French-Canadian), gloves and mittens and enjoyed tasting the various recipes. Those that were still chilled after the chili, could warm up at the portable bonfire that was in place at the festivities to stave off the wind and cold. Prizes were awarded at the end of the event, for the best of the chili's, cornbreads and pies that had been entered into the competition. Even with temperatures in the 40's, high winds and drizzle off and on all day, those hardy Copper Harbor folks and friends, had a great time.

Thanks to Joe Kirkish for braving the weather and the spicy chili, to bring us these shots of the day.

When we have our chili cookoff in town here, we have a great turnout also. It doesn't matter if it's raining, snowing, cold or warm, there are always tons of people walking through town. Lots of fun!!

Chili today, hot tamale! Looks like it could be a good weekend for color viewing. I may play hooky tomorrow and head UP :-)

It looks like the cook-off was a lot of fun. Nothing warms you up quite like a bowl of chili. I feel motivated to make a pot today, even though it will taste better tomorrow.

A BIG bowl of that sure would taste good on this rainy morning. Love the look on the little fella's face, watching his 'best bud' gulp down that mug of hot chocolate.;)

I would have LOVED to be there! Glad everyone had a good time and enjoyed great food. Wonderful to see that all-weather group enjoying the outdoors and good company.

Love to see the Copper Dog Bonfire skid seeing some multi-season use! See some familiar (albeit older - ha!) faces in this happy crowd. Wish we could've sent you 10 degrees or so from our heat last weekend. Would've glady traded for a bowl of chili!

I wish i could have made it there. I LOVE chili!

I know this is probably the wrong place to ask, but I can't find a
forum for the Portage Lift Bridge camera. I've been hoping that
someone would fix that camera, because the trees are starting to
turn, and that's one of the most beautiful views anywhere. But it's
stuck on 9-22, and we can't see those blazing fall colors!

Well, I guess I've asked. Maybe someone will read this.

Looks like one heck of a good time.

I've been wondering the same thing, Shooshie. It will be a shame to miss the colors there.
