Bob Gilreath's job, took him to new heights this past week. He was up on top of the Republic Bank building in Hancock, scouting out new spots to reposition the Michigan Tech Bridge Cam. It's a tough job, but somebody has to do it, right Bob? ;->

Personally, I'm glad Bob has to do it, because usually wherever Bob goes, so does his camera and this day was no exception, thank goodness. It's nice to see all this from up above and pick out what you can identify in each photo.

I especially like that one looking at M-26, across the canal. That's the highway that takes you up toward Walmart, the Mall and further on to South Range and beyond. You can see all the businesses in that corridor, along with the traffic on the highway, there. We featured an almost identical shot of this scene, taken in October of 1979, when M-26 was being reconstructed and the only recognizable building there at that time, was the Pamida building, which is now Kirkish Furniture. The photo here below is a small version, but if you click on the following link, it will take you to the original posting and a larger photo, back in the Archives: October, 3, 2004. Interesting to see how much it's been built up in the last 33 years.

Looks to me like Chutes and Ladders park also has been expanded since I last saw it ... a few years ago now. Fun place!

...hey wait a minute. I hope they don't replace the MTU "View Cam" that looks at the lift bridge. That's one of my favorites.

Not likely, more like the (click →) Tech Fund Cam.

Love the Autumn pics, and the reflections one is good, 2.

At first glance the 5th photo (ladders/chutes) looks like part of the Mayan Ruins.

Bob, Hancock never looked so good! Thanks.

By Bob Gilreath (Bobg252) on Wednesday, September 19, 2012 - 07:52 pm:

Alex, the cam will be basically the same angle, just moved to the roof in a new housing so that you wont get the glare that occurs when the lights are on in the office its located in now. The clouds were perfect that day to get great background shots.

Bob...Thanks, and I know what you mean about that glare. I view all the cams every morning and appreciate the upgrades.

Hancock looks empty--no cars---wonder what time of
day this was taken.

I actually used to clean the outside windows when that building was the D&N bank. However, I was used to doing 40 story building in Atlanta,Ga, so that building was relatively small, but it did give me a chance to get on TV6 news.
