Bob Gilreath's job, took him to new heights this past week. He was up on top of the Republic Bank building in Hancock, scouting out new spots to reposition the Michigan Tech Bridge Cam. It's a tough job, but somebody has to do it, right Bob? ;->
Personally, I'm glad Bob has to do it, because usually wherever Bob goes, so does his camera and this day was no exception, thank goodness. It's nice to see all this from up above and pick out what you can identify in each photo.
I especially like that one looking at M-26, across the canal. That's the highway that takes you up toward Walmart, the Mall and further on to South Range and beyond. You can see all the businesses in that corridor, along with the traffic on the highway, there. We featured an almost identical shot of this scene, taken in October of 1979, when M-26 was being reconstructed and the only recognizable building there at that time, was the Pamida building, which is now Kirkish Furniture. The photo here below is a small version, but if you click on the following link, it will take you to the original posting and a larger photo, back in the Archives: October, 3, 2004. Interesting to see how much it's been built up in the last 33 years.
