Today marks the 11th anniversary of the terrorist attacks in the U.S., now known as Patriot Day. It was a dark day for our country, with the loss of many lives amidst chaos and destruction, so I thought it only fitting to bring you some brightness, peace and calm for today, from Eric Stewart's recent visit to Eagle Harbor. Puffy clouds, calm waters, relaxing scenes, all help to soothe anything that ails you.

Eric's last shot gives a rougher view of Eagle Harbor, albeit a very familiar one, too. The lighthouse across the turbulent and wavy entrance to the harbor. Any trip to the Keweenaw, is not complete without a stop to take in Lake Superior crashing against her rocky shores.

Such a dark day! I was listening to the Bob & Tom Show in my company car radio when the news came over. The Bob & Tom Show being comedy, took quite some time for them to be convincing the seriousness of the attack event. God Bless America!

Wonderful photos of Eagle Harbor, one of my favorite places to visit! Thank you for them today, Eric Stewart & Mary! September 11 is a dark day in American history, one that needs to be remembered, and shown to those who were too young to remember or have otherwise forgotten. But thank you, Eric & Mary, for the bright spot in an otherwise dark day!

The first thing I thought about this morning when I woke up was the fact that it was 9/11. What a terrible day for Americans. Thank you for brightening the day with those beautiful pictures of one of my favorite places on earth!

Beautiful, beautiful photos today. A reminder of some of the many things we treasure about our great country. Thank you, Eric and Mary.

May God continue to bless our country, but let us never forget the sadness of that terrible day, and all the precious innocent lives lost. "Let's roll!"

By sometimesyooper (Nancyd) on Tuesday, September 11, 2012 - 10:03 am:

Seeing beauty in the world makes the the sadness more
bearable.

Would like to add....with the beautiful clouds in the photos, I was reminded of the lead-in verse to "God Bless America", by Irving Berlin.
"While the storm clouds gather, far across the sea, let us pledge allegiance to a land that's free. Let us all be grateful for a land so fair, as we raise our voices in a solemn prayer."

Very nice photos today. I've always loved watching the lake in all of its different moods.

I can never watch this without getting emotional.

By miningandlogging (Pinetreegirl) on Tuesday, September 11, 2012 - 04:30 pm:

It is a sad day in history. My heart goes out to all that lost their lives and their loved ones.

This is dedicated to all on this sad anniversary:

United We Stand!

This is a story of a historic event,
And this is the way that it went.

An airplane crashed thru building one,
Next thing people know two was done.

Now both buildings down of the twin towers,
While people wait for hours and hours.

They watch the police and firefighters strive,
And see if their loved ones are still alive.

Now there are two lights where the towers once stood,
And they shine very bright thru the neighborhood.

This event did not break apart the U.S.A.,
Because we are closer and closer to each other everyday.

Thanks for that comment Shirley ~

So many omit that very moving and important part of
the song.... its the perfect observation for the
picture Charlie posted 11 years ago as well as
today.

May we always remember how blessed we are in America
and do everything in our power to help each other.
God bless all our Pasty Cam friends.

while agreeing with the sentiments posted here on this occasion, I must disagree with the idea of calling this date Patriots day. In most of the eastern states, Patriots Day is April 19 to commemorate the "shot heard round the world" commemorating the beginnings of the Revolutionary War.

Mary says: Actually, it's all in how you spell it, lookielu. Sept. 11th, is PATRIOT Day, while PATRIOT'S Day, the one you're talking about, is held on the third Monday of April.
Confusing, to say the least, when they both have the same name, except for that 's.
