You may have heard the full moon in the skies this past Friday (August 31st), referred to as a Blue Moon. That reference simply means that there were two full moons in one month, which is somewhat of a rare occurrence, thus the saying, "once in a blue moon." Melanie Hakala Rossi was out waiting for this particular Blue Moon, near the shores of Superior. She snapped some good shots of it, then decided to play around with the moon, with the help of her friend, David, who framed it with his hands. Then Melanie reached up high, grabbed the moon and set it on her tripod for a shot. Good job capturing these "once in a blue moon" shots, Melanie and thanks for sharing them with us.

Our weather was excellent for me to capture pictures of the once in a Blue Moon as well.

The last photo looks like a streetlight. Very nice!

I asked Ron to stop so we could get a picture also. He said it'll be back in a few years. Men, lol!!!
Beautiful and clever shots! I have a picture postcard we purchased while living in Charlevoix, it has a shot of a full moon hanging over the town and it says "Once in a Blue Moon there's a Charlevoix". Which is so true because that's a unique little town/resort.

The zoo animals didn't escape, did they? Tomorrow is a new day ... hope it's a better one for you, Mikie. :-)

Since I live by the zoo, I went out side to check. None of the animals were here. So I headed down the street and couldn't find any. When I got close to the zoo I could here the elephants making noise. But they seem to all be caged yet. Diana I will check again in the morning for signs if any are missing. Have had peacocks visit before.

MIKIE; I did not know the zoo still had elephants? I thought they sent Winkie and Wanda to a sancuary awhile back.
IT WILL GET BETTER MIKIE...TRUST ME.

Mikie, thanks for checking on the animals. If you go to the Zoo, that new polar bear exhibit is AMAZING! Being inside the exhibit, and watching those beautiful bears swimming so close above you, is something else! :-)
That blue moon is something else, too. It does look like someone is swimming in the moon's reflection on Lake Superior, Mickill. :-)
By Michael Du Long (Mikie) on Thursday, September 6, 2012 - 01:09 am:
Mickill I took some poetic liberties with my post. My grandaughter worked at the zoo and was ofter stationed at the polar bear exibit. Even though we have a membership to the Zoo, I seldom go there. When said grandaughter was little we would go to the zoo every day it was open and ride the train. Precious said I was spoiling her. Might be a trip to the zoo soon. I will check up on the elephants. They may still be in Florida at the republican convention. Understand they are popular there.

Well, that's sad if the zoo animals escaped! We have polar bears at the smaller zoo here in MN. They are definitely beautiful creatures and I love seeing them.
You must go back with your younger grandchildren, Mikie! We're grandparents. It's our job to spoil the grandchildren :-)
And you're welcome for the chuckle. I couldn't resist :-)

I hardly call 4 comments a "chat". That's only 2 comments from each party. Geez.

Agreed, and Mikie mentioned something about elephants "at the republican convention". <shock!>
Should I should put on my grumpy old curmudgeon hat and complain about the "A.U.P. says that's a no,no …" too — no 'Polly ticks' allowed on this page? <Grumpf!>

I like Mr. Nash and his comments. Thanks for a little humor that I need,

FRNash I totally agree! I am only going to make this one comment, anything else might be considered a "chat". ;)

I know you are certainly no curmudgeon, FRNash!! You ARE funny, though :-)
