Good morning from MN!! Poured down rain yesterday, along with thunder, lightning and hail. This morning it's not so warm. Only have to work 1/2 day today so sure do hope it gets nicer out. Would like to take the grandkids out on the lake before they start back to school next week!

Have a great day!

Great slideshow again today. Love lighting the night! And the kayaking picture was superb!

I like the name "Ironwood". Does anyone know how that name came to be?

By miningandlogging (Pinetreegirl) on Thursday, August 23, 2012 - 09:25 am:

Its name's origin is usually considered to be from the following: James (Iron) Wood was a mining captain who worked for Fredrick Rhinelander. Arriving on the train to this wilderness camp, Mr. Rhinelander named the town in honor of his captain. There's a small park at the corner of North Suffolk and Fredrick Streets in honor of James Wood. Fredrick Street was in turn named after Fredrick Rhinelander for whom Rhinelander, Wisconsin was named.

Mary says: Proper credit needs to be given when quoting from an outside source. The above information was taken from the Wikipedia webpage: Ironwood, Michigan.

Seeing Amy's kayak photo makes me wonder what it's like to be kayaking after dark. I bet the night sky makes a beautiful background to see by. I love to watch the sky any time. Such a variety, never bored by looking! The Creater's unending art, though practical for our world!

Thanks, Pinetreegirl. I've always found it unusual that there are so many towns/places in Michigan which have the word "iron" in them, all for different reasons, I assume.

yesterday we drove to the point----the big lake was hazy. nice on top of the mtn. the road from Copper Harbor up the mtn was in bad shape. did the Gay to Bete Gres and that was nice. kids took a dip in the lake at Brunet park.

Off subject, but wanted to thank Sharon Smith for the glimpse of "Louie" this morning, a very pretty kitty!:>

By miningandlogging (Pinetreegirl) on Thursday, August 23, 2012 - 04:27 pm:

Iron is a typical name in Michigan, Shirley. There's ore in dem hills, iron ore.

Yes, Sharon, Louie is just adorable and so is Grayson. Love reading your journal everyday. You are one tough lady. I admire you.
