Deb and Ron (Mr. Deb) Simons were UP North for a visit recently and made a day trip to Copper Harbor, as it's one of their favorite places, no matter how many times they've been there before. Just like Lake Superior itself, this little town that's surrounded by the Big Lake, has some unexplainable magnetism that keeps drawing visitors back, time and time again. Even us born and bred Keweenaw Yoopers, like Deb and myself, have to make at least one trip up to "the Harbor" each year and spend some time perusing the many shops, checking out the marina and all the other interesting attractions. For a small town, there's so much to do, you'll need more than a day to take it all in.
If you're heading up that way, check out this link for more information about attractions to see and places to stay: CopperHarbor.org.

Nice pics and looks like great weather, too.

You're right about not being able to do everything in one day. We usually go twice, but there was too much to do for my mom. Next year we're hoping to spend at least one night up there so we can just hike and see everything we want to see. That was the most fun day, seriously! And Mother Superior was at her finest that day, with the waves splashing. We got nice pictures from Esrey, too.
Thanks, Mary, for sharing our fun day with everybody! Unfortunately, it'd take up the whole page to put every picture we took in Copper Harbor. For those of us who like to take pictures, there's just so much to take in!

Alex, the weather was chilly, but then that's what made the lake what it was today. In Eagle River, we stepped in the water and it felt so warm because of the waves, but the air was just too darn cold to go in. We didn't care, there was much to do without adding swimming to it.
And Thomas, I can't get to What's UP either! Wonder what the problem is??

Wake up in a bedroom where God sets the thermostat....U.S. Hwy 41 North is like an isle to God's distant altar

Great pictures,Deb. I love going to Copper Harbor but some trips north just don't have time to hit every place we want to see.

Hi DebS, warm big waves with cold windy air can be a fun time. If I'm keeping active by jumping and body surfing, that can counteract the wind, as can keeping mostly down in the water. Of course, you better have a nice big warm towel for when you get out.
OK....I was trying to figure out why the page was spread way out and why one of the photos was at the bottom of the page and now I really messed it up...the photos are gone. I should have left well enough alone. I'm trying to get ahold of Charlie now. Sorry folks!

Well, that was exciting. The comments disappeared here for awhile, then re-appeared in the correct format. If this comment appears OK, we're out of the woods.

All's well that end's well! Actually, I was getting used to the new format, but thanks for staying on top of it, Mary & Charlie.

Meant to comment to Kathryn. You're so right about the waves making the water warmer and easier to stay in. Any other time, we probably would have. But it was so cold that we didn't even bring our suits with us. That's when we love to go swimming, when the waves are huge. You can stay in a really long time then. Next year............I hope!

Deb S---The water gets warmer only if there is an onshore wind. It moves the warmer surface water in. Offshore wind does just the opposite.

Yeah, I know that Richard. It's amazing what a difference there is in water temperature when the wind is blowing off the water. It sure makes for some fun swimming with those waves!
