Cloudy here, but still warm and muggy.

Lost our dearly loved Tippy the cat yesterday. He's been going downhill for a long time but this last week you could see it was the end. His eyes were sad and he was having a difficult time breathing and no more purring....congestive heart failure :-( He was the purringest cat I'd ever seen...always so happy. Hubby took him to the vet and he took one look at his eyes and said he was ready to go and that we were doing him a favor. He's buried, in what was his favorite place to sleep, in our garden betweeb the daylilies. We will miss him so much :-(

I'm just glad this happened before we went to Michigan next week so he didn't die alone. We had originally picked yesterday to leave but something told me not to. They say there's a reason for everything, and there was the reason I felt so strongly about not leaving then. I know he's in kitty heaven because there never was a nicer cat.

Good afternoon, everyone. Deb, I am really sorry to hear about your loss of Tippy. I can't read stories like that without tearing up. My Havanese (dog) boy is almost 14 years old. He went through issues last year with arthritis, that had us almost ready to have him put down, but we waited a short time, and our trip to Houghton last August somehow cured that. (Yes, we always take our dogs with us.) His arthritis doing great now. Then, a heart murmur that he has had for a few years was beginning to develop into some heart failure in December. He is now on three heart meds. With the help of those meds, he is acting like he did when he was a very young puppy, including jumping up on the kitchen table and counter, if someone leaves a chair out. He is doing amazingly well right now, but I realize that could change at any time. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your hubby!

Thank you, Marianne, and I know how you feel. I tear up when I read stories about people losing their pets, also. They're such a big part of our lives....almost like our children and grandchildren. And they're more loyal than most friends are. You can't help but love them. He had thyroid issues, and when we put him on medication, we thought he'd get better. He did for a while, but then his breathing became an effort. Couldn't watch him suffer anymore.

Sorry to hear about Tippy, Deb. As you may remember last year, we lost our Weegie boy Bobby to congestive heart failure, except he went all at once in the middle of the night. He basically died in Nat's arms so she took it really hard. She still gets sad when she thinks about that moment, but time really does heal sadness and he was the kind of cat where he would not have taken a long, drawn out illness well. We'll be thinking of you from many miles away......

Speaking of which, Nat and I are staying in a real working fishing village south of Honningsvag, Norway at 71° latitude tonight and tomorrow night. We have already visited Nordkapp (the northern most point in Europe) this evening to see the midnight sun, but the fog rolled in and didn't appear to be going anywhere, so we will try tomorrow since it is supposed to be clear.

The photo below was taken about 2 miles south of Nordkapp about an hour ago (10:45 p.m.):

Thanks, Capt. I know how hard that must have been for Nat. Tippy was lying by me until the moment that Ron took him in, and Ron stayed with him.

That picture is beautiful! I have no desire to go over there, but yet I envy you guys getting to see all of that beauty. Hope you guys are having a great time!

Sorry Deb, my best to you and Ron, keep your heads up, you'll always have your memories. Have a safe trip to MI.

Deb, I left you a note of condolences on your Facebook page. I am so sorry for Tippy's loss.

By C Pihlaja Russell (Gone2long) on Monday, July 30, 2012 - 06:30 am:

Oh, my, Deb, I can't read your post without crying. I have four cats and in the past have had to put 3 other ones down. It's the hardest thing I have ever done; they are family. My thoughts are with you.

By Alex "UP-Goldwinger" (Alex) on Monday, July 30, 2012 - 07:18 am:

Condolences, Deb.
At least now you can go to MI without any worries, and who knows what the future may hold.

Deb, I'm so sorry to hear about your Tippy's passing, like the others it always brings tears to my eyes reading about someone losing a pet. I also have a Tippy, as you know, and he'll be 13 in Sept. He's an indoor kitty, I think that's why he's lasted this long.

On a lighter note, thanks Charlie for the 'bird'. Sheer luck. ;)

Love the kitties, sharing the sunset, and the moonrise pictures. They just grabbed me!

Couldn't get on here earlier to thank you guys for the condolences. Can't tell you how much I appreciate everybody on this site.
