How do you enter a message in this forum?

Do you enter each line of text as you would with an old fashioned typewriter, carefully watching as the cursor nears the "end of the line", then striking the Enter key, as you would have used the Carriage Return on that old typewriter — to avoid typing off the right edge of the page?

If that's how you do it, here's a suggestion: Please stop doing that!

1. You can not "run off the right edge of the page" when using your computer keyboard. There is no "right edge of the page" to run off of!
2. The Enter key is not a Carriage Return!

So how then? And what is the function of the Enter key?

How to do it: Just keep typing the text of your message! Not to worry, the text you enter will automatically "fold" over to the next line, and the next line, etc. as necessary, to build a complete paragraph. Magic!

So what exactly is the purpose of the Enter key? The Enter key is used (only) to generate a paragraph break! That is, at the end of each paragraph, strike the Enter key twice, the first one will close the current paragraph, and the second will insert a blank line between the previous and next paragraphs! (If you are indeed using paragraphs, you really don't want them run-on with no space between!)

Doing so will ensure that the paragraph format of your message will be preserved, regardless of the magnification at which each user may be viewing your message.

Examples to follow!

Getting the above example uploaded was quite a chore, and unfortunately the result contains a few typos, but it does serve to demonstrate the difference between the two text entry methods, so I won't spend any further time correcting the trivial typos!

Frank, let me clear up another mystery. This message
is being typed without ever hitting the Enter key.
Why is it wrapping in shortened lines? Because it is
being entered in Google Chrome, which creates this
effect.

By Charlie at Pasty Central (Chopper) on Monday, July 23, 2012 - 12:04 am:

Now, of course, here is the way you normally see my Cam Notes entries. Again, I am not hitting the Enter key, but this time it wraps at the end of the available space, because I am NOT typing in Chrome, but in Firefox.

By Charlie at Pasty Central (Chopper) on Monday, July 23, 2012 - 12:10 am:

Conclusion: Whenever you see a message with
shortened lines, it is most likely that it was
entered in a browser that shortens the word wrap -
like this one, which again is being typed in
Chrome.

By the way, I did hit Enter twice to create this
new paragraph, but I assure you the paragraphs
themselves are one long string of typing, without
ever hitting Enter. Also by the way, you can
conclude that I normally don't use Chrome to enter
Cam Notes, although Chrome is my browser of choice
for everything else :o)

Very interesting info, Charlie, and very annoying behavior for a browser! I'd say it validates my preference for the Firefox browser!

\i… Also by the way, you can conclude that I normally don't use Chrome to enter Cam Notes, although Chrome is my browser of choice for everything else :o"

It has been my impression that the Google Chrome browser isn't ready for prime time, I wonder what I'm missing?
