Near which towns does US-41 begin and end?

By Deb S. (Usedtobeayooper) on Friday, July 13, 2012 - 07:50 am:

Copper Harbor and Miami, FL

Didn't even have to look. Have seen that sign so many times.

Have a great day!

Splendid set of pix...gotta love summer!

By Janie T. (Bobbysgirl) on Friday, July 13, 2012 - 07:59 am:

I knew the mileage without looking at today;s review. because like Deb, have many personal pictures of the sign. Greg Allman of the Allman Brothers Band was born in the back of a bus on Highway 41 in the song "Ramblin Man.

By Deb S. (Usedtobeayooper) on Friday, July 13, 2012 - 08:06 am:

Didn't know that, Janie!

By Tom (Tom) on Friday, July 13, 2012 - 09:40 am:

Capt Paul, when are you and Dr. Nat leaving for
Norway?

By Capt. Paul (Eclogite) on Friday, July 13, 2012 - 10:18 am:

We leave next Tuesday (July 17) for Norway, Sweden, and Finland. Some of the places we'll be staying have internet access so maybe I'll post a photo or two along the way....

By Shirley Waggoner (Shirlohio) on Friday, July 13, 2012 - 10:36 am:

Awww, what a cute photo of Brody and Brimley, Janie! ;) Looks like they love having their pictures taken!

By jbuck (Jbuck) on Friday, July 13, 2012 - 11:04 am:

Safe travels, Capt & Dr Nat!!

Post your pictures at every opportunity ~ we'll be enjoying them from afar! Of course we'll be expecting a full explanation of what you're showing us too ~

By Capt. Paul (Eclogite) on Friday, July 13, 2012 - 06:14 pm:

Thanks jbuck!
Like I said some of the places have internet, especially in the south of Norway. At our furthest point north we'll be at the top of Europe at a place called Nordkapp, where the only things between us and the North Pole will be ice and polar bears!! Our quest is to see the midnight sun, but from the looks of the long range forecasts it's going to be chilly and wet. Another one of our stops takes us to a mountain glacier that we can hike on for a couple hours.

When I can, keep an eye out on this page; I'll post some pics every now and then of our journey to see the Dr's ancestoral homeland.

By jbuck (Jbuck) on Friday, July 13, 2012 - 07:14 pm:

Oh come on now Capt Paul, who are you trying to
fool?!

You know the polar bears and glaciers are virtually
gone!!!

By Alex "UP-Goldwinger" (Alex) on Friday, July 13, 2012 - 08:31 pm:

Capt...took a look Google street-view Norway and I can see why Dr. Nat enjoyed Scotland. You can almost paddle to John O' Groats. Enjoy!

By Janie T. (Bobbysgirl) on Friday, July 13, 2012 - 08:44 pm:

Capt. be sure to take tons of pictures, especially if you're planning to go to Scotland on this trip to make an album to view here on Pasty!!!

By Deb S. (Usedtobeayooper) on Friday, July 13, 2012 - 08:47 pm:

What Janie said, Capt. Too bad you won't be in the UP in August when we're there this year, though. But I guess if you MUST go abroad........

By Capt. Paul (Eclogite) on Friday, July 13, 2012 - 10:27 pm:

Janie,
We won't make it to Scotland, but I have an album of photos when I was there in 2008. You can see it here. The photos aren't the greatest as my camera was slightly malfunctioning.

Alex,
We actually discussed taking the ferry from Aberdeen to Bergen when we were in Scotland, but decided we would visit Norway on a separate vacation instead.

Deb,
Sorry we won't make it UP there this year, but we are planning two trips to Houghton in 2013; that is, if the Mayan calender doesn't come to pass.... :-P

By Janie T. (Bobbysgirl) on Saturday, July 14, 2012 - 06:10 am:

Capt, your Scotland trip pictures are awesome, beautiful scenery! Thanks so much for sharing!!

By Cindy Barga (Hoosiergirl) on Saturday, July 14, 2012 - 06:12 am:

Janie... My son spent the spring semester this year studying
abroad in the UK. He was at Harlaxton College in Grantham,
England. He traveled to Scotland and all over the UK, and
went to Spain, Poland and Italy. The pictures of Scotland were
spectacular. It was so beautiful, even in late winter wjen he
was there. He got to take a cruise on Loch Ness and and a
bus tour through the Scottish Highlands.
