Good Tuesday Morning!!

Those would be 2010, 2008, and 2001 (although you could argue 2007 as well).

2010, 2008, 2007, 2006, & 2001 would be my guess! Lots of them have water, so that could mean boats!

Loved the slideshow this morning!! Lots of water pictures!

Have a great day!

Regarding the picture of the diver, I have my father's notes regarding some diving in the area. He says the diving apparatus was first owned by Portage Lake Diving Co. of Houghton MI in about 1903. Andrew Nelson purchased the eqpt. in 1905 when the steamer Northern Wave of the Metal Steam Ship Co. hit & toppled over the center span of the Houghton bridge which took a year to repair. Nelson was a steel worker but the diver quit so he became the diver. In 1908 he came to C&H as a steel worker foreman & diver. My dad became his tender from 1926 to 1936 working on jobs with him. My dad, Lawrence Michel became C&H company diver when Andy Nelson passed away.

Hei John, WD8RTH, When I was 9 yrs old I lived in Houghton. Tuesday evening was when the SS SOUTH AMERICAN would tie up at the Cahodas/Paoli dock. Mom would take us kids aboaard to look around and when the 15 min. whistle blew we'd get off. Who knew that 10 yrs later I would be working in the steward's crew aboard the SS NORTH AMERICAN? I sailed that whole summer of 1959 on the NORTH. What a summer it was. That was the year that the St. Lawrence Seaway opened. We made two trips to Montreal with stops at Niagra Falls. The NORTH sailed every week from Chicago to Buffalo, with stops at Mackinaw Is., Detroit, Cleveland, Erie PA, and Buffalo. We also stopped at Parry Sound in Georgian Bay. What a pretty place!
