Henry Sakari was with his four year old great nephew, when he experienced his first time in the saddle here UP North. The big horse in the first photo is Lily and she's owned by Ann Harris. After the ride he met the mini horses in the barn and he didn't want to sit on them. Henry asked him, "how could you get on the big horse outside but you're afraid to sit on the little one inside the barn, tied?" He said it doesn't have one of those things on it (saddle). Guess he likes the comfort of a saddle when he gets on a horse.

What a great way to spend a day in the Keweenaw, learning the ropes of horseback riding.

Horses! One of my favorite loves I am so lucky to live with each and every day, all 13 of mine! A life long loving gift my dad introduced me to!

By the way, harness that mini for a cart ride and he will have a tough time trying to decide which is more fun, carting or riding!

Looks like he has new friends.

As a kid on my birthday, my wish was always for a horse, lol. I never got one so haven't developed the love for them. Love these pictures!

Wouldn't want to pay her hay bill, eh, FJL?
Is it just me or does the little fellow not look too happy in the saddle.

I love these photos of children interacting with horses! What a wonderful experience. The ground can look a long way down when you are that small but he'll get used to it.

By Janie T. (Bobbysgirl) on Tuesday, July 10, 2012 - 01:24 pm:

Shirley, for the record, we make our own hay.

By Janie T. (Bobbysgirl) on Tuesday, July 10, 2012 - 01:29 pm:

Thank You Donna! You understand!

By Shirley Waggoner (Shirlohio) on Tuesday, July 10, 2012 - 01:38 pm:

Yeah, Janie, I figured that, what with a big farm and all. Also, that way you know what they're eating.:)

By Janie T. (Bobbysgirl) on Tuesday, July 10, 2012 - 01:53 pm:

The best part Shirley, we rent our hay ground to a neighbor in shares, his equipment, fuel, and all other expenses. Pretty nice set up.

By Shirley Waggoner (Shirlohio) on Tuesday, July 10, 2012 - 02:13 pm:

You can't beat that, Janie!

sometimes yooper....it looked like a long way to the ground as a grown-up too!!! Loved looking at horses but scared to death all around. So big, so strong. Nice from a distance!
