It's America's birthday, everyone, so let's celebrate the Independence of our country in style. Fly your flag, like Sally Beaudette is doing in the beautiful sunset photo featured today. It's all about the red, white and blue on a day like today, so display it, wear it and do it with pride.
Something else you can always find to celebrate with on the day our nation was born, are some good old pyrotechnics, like those seen in today's photo from Brian Rendel. This fireworks display in Houghton is lighting up not only the sky, but the Portage Lake Lift Bridge as well. Although the bridge is looking pretty lit up all on its own, too.
I'm not certain of the schedule, but you should be able to find some fireworks going off somewhere in the Copper Country this evening.

Remember, however you choose to celebrate this holiday in honor of our country...do it smart, do it safely and have a great time.

Happy 4th of July!

HAPPY 4TH EVERYONE. AND BE SAFE.Can't seem to get my flag pole into the ground. The dirt is like cement. Must look for some kind of gadget to put into the soil so I can fly the flag steady and proudly. Sat out to have my coffee and by 7 a.m. it was already getting thick and heavy to breath! Got to thinking of the "good old days". Pregnant for 6 years and no AC! Talk about miserable.I don't take the lovely coolness for granted in my home...ever.

That sunset flag is perfectly timed so clearly. The sun shining thru at the right moment. The cloud bank easing thru the clear sky.And the shinning reflection on the water follows the line of the flagpole! Wins first place in this judging eye. Thank you Sally.

What a beautiful and soul-stirring sight in the first photo! Thank you, Sally.
May GOD bless this great country!

MsKatie--Suggestion---Find a piece of pipe to act as a socket for your flag pole. Stand it vertically and put your hose down the pipe. The rushing water will start to dig a hole. Keep at it until it's deep enough to hold your flag the way you want. Turn off the water and wait a day or so for the ground to dry out and you're ready to fly Old Glory. For years I flew my brother's casket flag from 1943 but now I live in a R/V park and can't have a flag pole. Today's flag is much smaller but it's still Old Glory.

Well Richard what a good idea. That sounds just like I need for my pole. It'll take a while to find the parts but it should be just what I need, thank you. Having no water source I'll rig something up to work like that tho.

These pictures are breathtaking. I first saw the 1st one on Sally's FB page. She has some amazing sunset photos. This one sure does fit the day. And that second one is gorgeous also. Thanks so much for sharing.

And a Happy 4th of July to everybody! Too hot here to even go to the parade. Pretty sure we'll spend most of the day at the lake. I think it's supposed to hit triple digits today!!

Stay safe!

Not too many fireworks going on in Indiana today. With our extreme drought and temps in the 90's and low 100's for the last 10 days, many towns are putting them off until the weather improves. All but 4 or 5 counties in Indiana have burn bans. This also includes personal fireworks. Personally, I'd rather people wait than to burn someone's house down. Happy 4th to everyone!

By Shirley Waggoner (Shirlohio) on Wednesday, July 4, 2012 - 12:44 pm:

Heard some loud booms coming from the direction of the village of Bethel last night, so they must've had a display at the ballfield. We also have extreme drought conditions here in Ohio, Cindy. Desperately need rain and cooler temps.
