Duane Haralson was busy getting close to nature recently, snapping some great close-up shots of first, a Hummingbird and second, what I think is a 12-Spotted Skimmer Dragonfly. He sure did zoom in close, so we can get a good look at these two, neither of which sit still for long.

From what I was able to find out about this Dragonfly, it's considered large for the species, at about 2 inches long. Whereas, the Hummingbird is small for its species at around 2 to 3 inches. Funny how they're almost the same size, yet one is considered the smallest and the other the largest.

Fun pictures. I love snapping pictures of both of these creatures. Love hummingbirds and love dragonflies (they swoop right by you to get the insect that's just about to bite you).

Thanks for sharing!

Nice detail! The dragonfly is ready to jump off my monitor.

What big eyes you have, Skimmer! OVO

Nice pics...and doesn't that little hummingbird look like it's glaring at ya? LOL. Vicious lil' things....they are adorable but heckuva territorial! Dragonflies...beautimous creatures!`

Just look at those pics. Wonderful. Thank you,
Duane!

Had no idea Hummingbirds could sit still long enough to get this amazing picture!

By Shirley Waggoner (Shirlohio) on Wednesday, June 27, 2012 - 02:22 pm:

lol! That was my thought earlier, Janie.:)
BTW, your Scout is a beauty!

By Janie T. (Bobbysgirl) on Wednesday, June 27, 2012 - 03:07 pm:

Thank You Shirley. I rescued Scout. He was put in with full size horses left to fend for himself, to be kicked and battered and nothing to eat.

Why do hummingbirds hum? Because they don't know the lyrics (lol).

By Hollidays (Hollybranches) on Wednesday, June 27, 2012 - 04:16 pm:

Our male hummingbird sits on top of the feeder, guarding his stash. He is something, won't let anyone but the Mrs. near his food.

Thomas, that was funny and also love your doggie profile picture.

That's my boxer dog Trooper when he was about 15 weeks of age, the picture taken 10 years ago.

By Hollidays (Hollybranches) on Wednesday, June 27, 2012 - 04:25 pm:

He's just adorable, bet he still is.

By Thomas Baird (Thomas) on Wednesday, June 27, 2012 - 04:40 pm:

He still is, even at the Rainbow Bridge. He came down with a tumor that caused a condition called wobbler's disease, and he couldn't stand up anymore, and we had to put him to sleep in Sept. 2009. BTW, I submitted the same photo to Jones Soda company in the event they deceide to use it on their soda pop bottles.

By Janie T. (Bobbysgirl) on Wednesday, June 27, 2012 - 04:48 pm:

Thomas, I noticed Trooper's name was not listed on your profile with your other Boxer's, I wondered if perhaps he had gone over The Rainbow Bridge. I have a friend that had a gorgeous Doberman, that came down with wobbler's. Very sad experience.

By Hollidays (Hollybranches) on Wednesday, June 27, 2012 - 05:12 pm:

Thomas, so very sorry. Going to have to send Yooper Joe to the Rainbow Bridge soon. It's killing us.

By Thomas Baird (Thomas) on Wednesday, June 27, 2012 - 05:40 pm:

It's killed us, too. Not only with Trooper, but with Duke and Matty (boxers), also.

By Shirley Waggoner (Shirlohio) on Wednesday, June 27, 2012 - 06:48 pm:

Thomas, so sorry about Trooper. This sadly answered my question from the other 'page'.
