It seems that we've had a plethora of chipmunks lately, so I thought we'd do a little study about their tastes in provisions, here UP North.

We start with a shot from Duane Haralson, who spotted this little fella in his backyard. He's technically not eating what he has in his mouth, it's most likely nesting materials, but it is in his mouth, so I'm counting it as an "eating" shot. Nice, that he stopped to pose for Duane like that.

Then we move on to what Steve Brimm identified as a lessor known Hawaiian chipmunk, who's stealing some pineapple strips. With tongue in cheek, Steve asks, "Who knew they like pineapple?" :->

Donna MacIntosh got down nose to nose with her photo subject. Or maybe she just zoomed in to capture this close-up of her little friend. Just look at the seeds that little guy has stored in those puffy cheeks. Even though summer is just beginning, these critters are thinking ahead to the winter months and are already preparing for them.

Our last chippie, was spotted by Marsha Galbraith, who seems to have baited this guy in for a good photo op. I like how you can see the digits on his feet so well in this photo. Very human finger-like, which makes it easy for these little animals to pick up, peel and eat what they need to survive.

This concludes our study in chipmunk dining. Whether you love them or hate them, you have to admit, they're really resourceful little critters.

Charlie...you run out of duct tape yet? :-)

What a hard time Charlie must be having. My daughter told me the
storms were bad in the Keweenaw.

What a grueling month we have had! After extensive wind damage last week, yesterday evening we had an awesome lightning show over the Keweenaw, which knocked out a bunch of equipment and left some areas without power most of the day.

Better late than never...

These chippies looks just like the little demons around here who are eating all of the bird food, lol. But they're so darn cute! They go running away with a mouthful every time.
