Laurie Bashaw is having a good time showing her grandsons and daughter, the finer things in the Marquette area. Luckily, a few of them are all in the same spot, like the Marquette Lighthouse, which you can see right from the beach there. Then of course there's Lake Superior itself, which is amazing even to little guys like these, how clear and clean it is, along with the cold. Although, Laurie said they didn't seem to mind that at all and waded in as far as their shorts would let them and then some.

But according to Grandma... the hit of the day was the Herbert C. Jackson sailing by. The boys were so excited, that they had to hurry up and drive over to the dock so they could see it closer still. Yes, indeed, there's plenty to see down on the Marquette lakeshore, enough to keep the young, old and in between, busy.

Thanks for the nice pictures this morning. good to see the kids able to enjoy the beginning of summer on the shore at Marquette. During my short 3 year sailing career I was able to visit 44 ports on the great lakes, from Duluth to Chicago to Toronto but never made it into Marquette.I have always said in my next life I will be living in Marquette and attending Northern Michigan Univ.

Awesome, awesome pictures, Laurie! I recognized those people in the first picture before I even knew who took the pictures, lol! Nice!

Saw where they are talking about 're-configuring' Lakeshore Drive from this area out to Presque Isle. Maybe its a good thing (such as moving it so it isn't underwater during storms) but i'm apprehensive that they will do more harm than good.

We shall see what comes of all the discussions!

Eddyfitz ~

You can still attend NMU in this life and join us Wildcats!! We'd love to have you!

I'll second that, Alex! Looking forward to seeing a very similar view in a few weeks myself.

How far south of Presque Isle is that first photo? Looks like a nice sandy stretch for my little grandaughter to walk on! :-)

Be careful about going in, though. This is the areas that has the rip tides.

Alex, good song title for today's Cam Notes. It is an easy, peaceful feeling.

Saw the Eagles in concert and that is my one of my favorite bands.

Love the little boys and mom on the beach. They know how to do it.....barefoot. Brings back great memories of my beach bum boys.

I worked on the Herbert C. Jackson as a relief deckhand in Dec. of 1986. A great boat to work on.

By jbuck (Jbuck) on Wednesday, June 20, 2012 - 09:22 pm:

So Dave, what made it such a good boat to work on? The crew? The quarters?
