In case you didn't know, today is Flag Day, so if you don't already have yours out and flying, like Bob Gilreath, stop right now and go put it out, we'll wait.......
There, that's better. This is the day we commemorate the adoption of the flag of the United States of America. I'm sure there are many flags all across the U.P., flying proudly, today.

The bottom two photos from Tom Cook, are flag related, too. Those intricate flowers are called, Blue Flag Iris and they sure are beautiful. These flowers bloom from May to July and can be found in fields, along marshes, riverbanks and shorelines. They're a common sight here UP North, since we have so much of the habitat they thrive in.

Reminder: Don't forget to fly Old Glory proudly, today. Happy Flag Day!

THANK YOU TO ALL VETERANS! God Bless you for doing what you did/do....so we CAN fly this flag! Proud to be an American!

Red, White and Blue, doesn't get any prettier! Those Iris' are known as Wild Russian Iris here in eastern Iowa. I transplanted some from our lower field to around the house. Love them.

One year I planted one of my flowers beds in all red white and blue flowers. It was so beautiful!

Yes, Proud to be an American!
As children, my sisters and I always called irises 'flags'. I love the aroma...faint but delightful.

Not 2 brag, but I wrote and posted this poem at Poetry.com:

Oh, the glorious U.S. Flag,
in colors of red, white, and blue.
Waving majestically in the breeze,
creating a beautiful view.

This flag, it stands for freedom,
it stands for all that is good.
Displayed at victorious war battles,
since the U.S.'s birth it has stood.

It waves from Florida to Alaska,
from Maine to Hawaii afar.
With 13 bright red and white strips,
and so blue with 50 white stars.

This flag can be seen from our buildings,
from houses and homes n'er too soon.
It's seen overseas at our consulates,
and has been all 6 times to the Moon.

Oh, the glorious U.S. Flag,
so proud with the Eagle and Dove.
All standing for all of our freedoms,
each given from God up above.

Happy Flag Day, and the flowers are glorious, 2.

Thomas, that is beautiful....gave me goosebumps!
My husband used to write poetry....I admire that trait in folks!
Thank you for sharing it with us!

Funny-but the sight of Old Glory-waving on high--still gives me tears at times! I sure love our dear flag. Beautiful photo!

My son turns 11 today! Every year he gets a brand new American flag tee shirt to wear, an American flag theme cake and party supplies, and every few years a brand new American flag to fly from the house. When he was little he thought the flag was named America! And every flag flying was to celebrate his birthday!

By Karen Benton (Nerakthenice178) on Thursday, June 14, 2012 - 02:58 pm:

Thomas, what a fantastic poem! You should copyright the words, and see if someone can set it to music. I'm sure it would be an even bigger hit. Lookielu, that's the most wonderful way to celebrate your son's birthday I've ever heard. Mine's around Thanksgiving, so I always said the whole country was giving thanks for my birth when it landed that day, but all I got was turkey, not a flag! Have a joyous and wonder-filled Flag Day today, folks!

By Shirley Waggoner (Shirlohio) on Thursday, June 14, 2012 - 03:41 pm:

HAPPY BIRTHDAY to Lookielu's son! :)
