On a recent trip to the Porcupine Mountain State Park, in Ontonagon, Jeremy TePaske snapped today's photos. They give you an idea of the different scenery you can expect to see while there, such as Mirror Lake in the first photo, which lives up to its name quite well, with the reflection Jeremy captured. From what I can find, it looks like this lake is located just about in the middle of the State Park and is actually accessible by several different trails.
Next, Jeremy shares a photo of the forest along one of the trails, all decked out in lush green leaves and ferns. You can bet it was peaceful and quiet while hiking through those woods, except of the usual sounds of the critters and birds that call this home.
The last photo was taken from the shores of Lake Superior, looking southwest, toward Black River Harbor, which we visited here on these pages a little over a month ago, on May 11, 2012.
Even though I've never hiked the trails in the Porcupine Mountains, I'd venture to say that anywhere you turn, you'll find beauty like Jeremy did, along with plenty of peace and quiet.

The Porcupine mountain landscape, like a man or a woman, acquires character through time and endurance...

I love the "Forest Green" since that's my favorite color, but have to wonder if the ground cover is loaded with ticks and creepy crawlers.:(

Shirley:
Didn't you know? There aren't any ticks or any sort of bugs anywhere in da UP!

Hands down, one of my favorite places! In my opinion, the Porkies are one of the most beautiful places to visit in the UP. Jeremy's pictures don't lie. Beautiful scenery abounds everywhere: Ancient, glacier-worn mountains, forests, rivers, falls, lakes, the Superior lakeshore. Presque Isle with it's several gorgeous falls and fantastic geology at the western end of the park, as well as Lake of the Clouds near the eastern end, are highlights you don't want to miss. Highly recommended!

Well David I guess all the black flies I hear about UP there don't know that, eh? :}

Lovely scenery.

Hi
I haven't been to the Porcupine Mts since I was a kid. My family camped at Union Bay. There were rock outcroppings that extended out into Lake Superior. My brother and I would go out near the end, where it was swimming depth. Then we would jump in, spash around frantically for a few minutes, haul ourselves out, and stretch out on the sun-warmed rocks like a couple of lizards.

My kids and I have hiked the Porkies several times. One time, we went off the beaten path and found a small waterfall. The kids were able to take a "natural shower" under the falls. We just followed the river and got a inside look of the park. Now that I am older (and wiser) I don't know if I would do that by myself with to young children. ?bears? I am glad I video taped it. It was a wonderful hike, a memory of a lifetime.
