Lake Bancroft Park in Ishpeming is the setting for these photos and the occasion is the WOD (Workout of the Day) for the CrossFit 906 athletes. But it wasn't just any old workout, it was a special one to honor a hero, Laurie Bashaw's husband, Steve, who died a year ago on 5/27/11, after a long battle with cancer, a product of his service to our country during the Vietnam war and having been exposed to Agent Orange. The CrossFit family is big on honoring military heroes, so they decided to honor Steve's memory with this WOD, which consisted of a one mile run, then 5 rounds of 5 push presses, 27 sit-ups and 11 box jumps. (Note the numbers coincide with the date Steve departed).

Laurie had some special folks there to work out with her. Steve's brother and Laurie's daughter participated, too, that's them in the second photo with her, along with one of her grandson's and her golden retriever-in-law, who didn't work out, but was there for the moral support. ;->

What a wonderful way Laurie's fellow CrossFitters came together to honor Steve Bashaw, military hero and a unique way to say thank you for his service.

It was an unusually busy morning at Pasty Central, and we didn't get today's pictures on until after noon. A deluge of pasty orders, last minute Father's Day, as well as the final shipments before the summer break.

Right in the middle of this frenzy, the Internet service was interrupted, and we had to do some scrambling. We've had as much of a workout as the folks in today's pictures :o)

My kind of crowd!

It may be an optical illusion, but the guy in the first photo, standing on the platform, looks like he should be falling backwards.

Laurie: What a wonderful tribute to your husband. My goodness that's a fit looking crowd, and at one of my favorite places in Ishpeming. I wish I had been there to see the event.

Whew! I'm worn out just looking at 'em! What a wonderful 'cause'. May God bless and comfort Laurie, and may He bless all who participated!
Her husband Steve and my Frank went 'home' to be with the Lord just 20 days apart last year.

Thanks Everyone. That would have been fun to have you there Christine. My sympathies Shirley. It's been a tough year. Christine knows a mother's heartache. May God bless all of us as we journey on.

Very touching! It is wonderful how people come together to honor those who have fallen in or because of service to our country.

WOW!! I missed this while in the UP because we didn't even turn the computer on while we were there we were so busy. Laurie, this is all so awesome to celebrate Steve's memory this way. Nice to see family participating with you.
