We're used to seeing Marquette's Lower Harbor from dry land, but today we're treated to a view of the harbor and some of Marquette's landmarks from the water side. Chad Johnson was recently in town there and had the opportunity to board the Isle Royale Queen III for a tour of the harbor. Through the magic of his camera lens and the World Wide Web, we get to go along with him. Chad said that it was really cool to see the city from this perspective and I have to agree. Seeing anything from a different angle or view, makes you appreciate it all over again. Thanks for the tour, Chad!

Very cool shots of Marquette!

Have never been on the cruise, but these make it look well worth the time & money to go! Didn't they just open a tavern in/around the lower harbor ore dock?

Nice pictures, pretty scenery! However, the dome looks like an overturned wok! The old dock pilings are much more pleasant to the eye.:)

Thank You for today's visit to Marquette!

I love the view from the water towards land, thank you, Chad & Mary! I saw this area from land for the first time the end of April this year, when we were driving home from Da Tech with my youngest son, after he had just completed his second year of Chem Eng, so the timing of this is awesome! (I wanted him to take a slight detour from our route home, so I could see the Marquette Light closeup, for the first time. I was really surprised that the Light was so weathered and faded that it didn't even really look like the gorgeous bright red Light that I had seen in photos before; it really wasn't recognizable. We did have an interesting little detour, though, seeing lots of things closeup that I had previously only seen here on Pasty. There are great places for picnics, etc along that route. It was well worth the extra hour that we spent on our way home to tour the area!

I MISS THAT CITY!

I thought the Isle Royale Queen III was lenghtened and was renamed the Isle Royale Queen IV.

Mary says: The Isle Royale Queen IV is a completely different vessel, you can check her out here: Isle Royale Queen IV.
And for a look at the Queen II, III and IV, check this out: Isle Royale Blogspot with Capt. Ben Kilpela.

Amen, UC!!!

Time to get back there!

The Isle Royale Queen III was nick named the barf barge before the additional length was added. I assume the way it rocked and rolled in heavy seas caused a few people to lose their lunch! Good to see it has made it's way back to the Big Lake. I wonder when the new owners will repaint the stern to read Marquette, MI instead of Menominee, MI?

The nick for the Superior Dome is the YOOPER DOME!!
