I do not profess to be a horticulturist and you can tell that for sure, by the titles I gave to today's photos from Krista Poirier. I could only name two of them and one of those two, I had to look up to be certain. I've always thought it was called Indian Paintbrush, but learned through one of our viewers here at Pasty Central, that it's really Orange Hawkweed, which is considered a noxious weed or invasive plant in many states and it spreads aggressively. (Ob)noxious or not, it is quite colorful and it's nice to see the color coming back to the Keweenaw with all the wild flowers showing up and even the colorful bugs, like the ladybug in the last shot.
Krista sure has a nice variety of flowers here today no matter what they're called, but if you can name the ones I was stumped on, feel free to chime in below.

The purple flowers look to be Violets.

And the yellow flower is probably trout lily

Yes, Janie, I think you're right about the violets. Wild violets have been my favorite flower since childhood. They grow in abundance around my house.
These photos remind me of Spring in high school.....our science class always had a wild-flower field trip each year, usually in one of the many parks around Nashville. We would carry a book to 'press' them, then later back at school we had to identify what we'd found. Wonderful times!:)

JBuck, trout lily is one name for the yellow wildflower; you can see the mottled leaves, which I guess looked trout-like to the namer, in the photo. Other common names are dogtooth violet and yellow adder's tongue.

But Just Me is right, you can enjoy them without knowing the name. I know a few, & trout lily is one.

I hope to see some yellow ladyslipper and columbine this weekend near Mackinaw City.

The calypso orchids should also be out in Wilderness Park this weekend. One of the few places they grow!

We arrived yesterday in Eagle Harbor, to open the cottage. My daffodils were all done, the lilacs are in full bloom, I saw forget me nots at the Jam Pot (yes, I am eating pecan/chipolte brittle right now!) AND the bugs are here in full force. But I don't mind the bugs, I'm in Eagle Harbor!

Hmmmmm, so if the bugs are so early, does than mean they'll all be gone about mid-June?

My wife spotted nodding trillium and pink ladyslippers today while walking. The trilliums were very miniaturized (at 5 to inches tall) and the ladyslippers came in two sizes, maybe poor soil caused the dwarfing. These were all on the Keweenaw and the timing is right for the ladyslippers, they are out when the blackflies make viewing them difficult...

Trout Lily/Swamp Lily is what my Gram used to call them...or cowslips...something like that. The blue flower is Periwinkle...it's a ground cover that is just beautiful....you'll find it covering old homesteaded areas....It carpets the ground...I think it grows up in that old Irish cemetery by Vansville...

My Grandmother told me that Indian Paint brushes blew into the CC during the dust bowl times in the '30's. I never bothered to find out if that's true. Anybody out there got any ideas about that?

Not sure about that one, but there is an area down by Moran which has purple coneflower. The info we had (think it was from the Nature Conservancy) said that the seeds came in from the prairies when they brought in hay for the horses back in the day. Maybe other flowers hitchhiked in like that too?
