Just outside of Lake Linden, you'll find the road that takes you out to the community of Gay, MI, known as the Gay Road... that's where Jessica Gariepy was snapping away with her camera this past weekend, showing us all, the beautiful greenery that is emerging in the area. It's amazing how quickly everything goes from leafless and gray, to green, once the weather warms up a little.

Jessica captured a couple of candid family shots, too, her little guy pedaling all over the yard and heading up the driveway, looks like he has some prime bike riding area there. And she finished up with a picture of her hubby, Chris, busy cooking dinner on the grill. Wonder what's on the menu?

Better get outside and enjoy the nice weather before the onslaught of bugs attack!

Speaking of attacks... Have you heard about the new invader in the Copper Country? It's known as Garlic Mustard, an extremely invasive plant that has been spotted at several locations in Houghton County. There's a presentation about it at 6:30 this evening at the Calumet Public Library, entitled Green Invader.

Looks like a fine day for a scenic bicycle ride. Garlic Mustard is every where here in Iowa too.

I've never heard of it. I'll have to go to the site tonight when I get home if I have time.

OOPS!! Forgot to say what a great place to live Chris & Jessica have!

Nice family pix! Hope the little guy is steady on his bike, that gravel could really do a number on little bare knees.

Nice home and property...what a view! Cutting the grass must take an entire day.

Hey Charlie - we've been fighting against Garlic
Mustard for years downstate, & it IS terribly
invasive! I've learned to pull it before it gets
too
high, & it's easy to spot & pull. If you wait too
long, the roots hold on tight, & it's nearly
impossible to pull out. Or, it just breaks off @
ground level.
Every spring, I pull by the crick in my backyard.
Unfortunately, my neighbor doesn't, so it's every
spring for me...
(oh, I never remember seeing it before several
years ago, now it seems to be everywhere!)

We have it here in Illinois also

Just like Ethel Merman sang,"Everything's coming up green," no that was roses. (lol)

By Hollidays (Hollybranches) on Wednesday, May 16, 2012 - 04:11 pm:

The garlic mustard plant has been in Ontonagon for quite some time, according to my yooper friend, Julie. She also said that there is a mustard plant, no garlic, that has also been here for quite some time. I remember that dirty, rotten weed when we lived in Illinois and it's very hard to get rid of.

What else could this climate change bring to the clean, pure, UP? Well, there's more; the wolves have been attacking cattle farmers. The cattle farm on M38 between Ontonagon and Greenland have lost a total of $60,000 in livestock due to wolves. The state of Michigan paid them a total of $3,000.00 for their loss. They were also told that they could shoot some wolves, but not all of them. That is not right.
Julie said she saw a wolf pick up her prized baby goat, shake it, kill it and run off in the woods with it.
DNR needs to get it together and let nature take it's course.

LOL! I'm wondering, Thomas, was it Ethel Merman or Al Gore? ;)

By Donna (Donna) on Wednesday, May 16, 2012 - 08:40 pm:

I went from Baraga to Houghton today. I have to say, Chassell rocks...that little town is simply beautiful in the Spring. On the way back, I went behind Computer Graphics in Dodgeville and cruised the way back way to Chassell and then home, and WOW...I'd say another day or two of sun, and if you go...TAKE YOUR CAMERA~!! It is beyond beautiful!

Well, Shirley, I didn't think of it that way. That was a good one.
