I looked up the spelling of "sidetracked" to use on the main page this evening, and found the word has two meanings: 1) when a train is parked off on a side spur, and 2) when one is preoccupied with distractions apart from the main subject.

My 'main subject' for many years on Sunday morning has been to publish a "Shoebox Memory" about Michigan's Upper Peninsula. Usually this happens by 8 am. This particular morning the distraction started with the Keweenaw Lions Club annual Spaghetti Dinner, getting the Mohawk School ready for hundreds of people coming to enjoy this yearly delight. But after helping set up the tables, I had to dash off to other pressing details, including a problem with our Pasty.NET Internet service, some kitchen chores at Pasty Central, and several errands around the Keweenaw. Suddenly it was almost 11pm and I realized... no Shoebox Memory yet!

So, Googling the terms "sidetracked" and "Mohawk" I found this interesting old photo at the U.P. Digitization Center. Not sure where this building stood back in the day. And, of course, we haven't seen a streetcar in these parts for quite a while. But it did take me back to my very young days, when I remember seeing the old streetcars with the overhead wires, in one of the bigger cities. It would be neat to go back in time, early last century in the Copper Country, when this mode of transportation was prevalent.

Speaking of time... better push the "post" button on this before we break our perfect record of 14 years, 2 months, and 6 days without failing to bring you a 'daily glimpse of life in the U.P.'

Have a good week :o)

Brings to mind that quote ... "If you want something done, ask a busy person to do it". Glad you made it, Charlie! ;-)
