Danielle Adams was down at the water's edge, on the Portage Canal this past Friday and look what she happened to capture a few photos of...it's the USCG buoy tender Alder, busy at work, setting the buoys back in place for the boaters to navigate their way around the waterways of the Keweenaw. That can only mean one thing. Boating season must be just around the corner and that means that summer is too. I sure hope so! By Deb S. (Usedtobeayooper) on Tuesday, May 1, 2012 - 08:03 am: Happy Birthday, Danielle! Nice pictures! By Eddyfitz (Eddyfitz) on Tuesday, May 1, 2012 - 08:07 am: Just a few days ago I was down at the Detroit riverfront and asked about bouy markers and was told that the Coast Guard would set them on the Wyandotte-Trenton channel if the Edison plant was to get at least 5 loads of coal this year. They nowdays get loads of coal almost daily both from down Kentucky way and also a cleaner mix blend from Wyoming area. Hope the locals in Houghton-Hancock get to view a few freighters again this year. By Capt. Paul (Eclogite) on Tuesday, May 1, 2012 - 08:26 am:

There is a ship in the Marquette lower harbor cam that looks like it could be the Adler. By Joann (Packerbacker) on Tuesday, May 1, 2012 - 10:53 am: HAPPY MAY DAY TOALL When I was a kid, on May Day we would pick wild flowers, make small bouquets and leave them at the door of a friend. Never knock on the door, just leave them. We would also make paper baskets in school. I doubt if they do that anymore. We were encourage to leave flowers at someone's door that was elderly and/or ill. Values taught in school. By Janie T. (Bobbysgirl) on Tuesday, May 1, 2012 - 01:34 pm: I get to have a May Day biopsy today.....yay, good times! By Shirley Waggoner (Shirlohio) on Tuesday, May 1, 2012 - 01:56 pm: All the best to you, Janie, in thought and prayer! By Thomas Baird (Thomas) on Tuesday, May 1, 2012 - 02:43 pm: My favorite branch of the service. I was in the Coast Guard Auxiliary for about 12 years. By kay Moore (Mskatie) on Tuesday, May 1, 2012 - 07:25 pm: Just a happy note to Joanne. Today at our local kindergarden I spent several hours helping my class (I'm a volunteer grandma)make May baskets with candy and popcorn. After much glueing, cutting and stapling and drawing of flowers they crossed the school yard and delivered one each to the seniors at a small housing unit next door. I was so proud of them and their wonderful teacher Mrs Gabriel! They are going to lose a special teacher when she retires this year! Maybe things are a bit different these days but there still are some good people that we don't always hear about. By Danielle L. Adams (Badkid) on Wednesday, May 2, 2012 - 12:02 am:
