I'd like to introduce you all to Erick Baccus, a former US Marine, having served our country for 8 years, now living in Lake Linden with his family and a member of the Hubbell Fire Department. That's him in all four of these photos snapped by Shannon Lea Rastello, who was on hand as Erick did some practicing for an event taking place later this summer. On July 14th, he is going to attempt to break a world record for the farthest distance on a snowmobile, on water. The practice here, was at the Lake Linden park, but Erick's actual attempt at the record with take place on the Houghton/Portage Canal and will be filmed by TV6 News, along with the Daily Mining Gazette on hand for pictures. For more information and updates from Erick himself, go and "Like" his Facebook page set up about the upcoming event. Snowmobile Water Cross World Record Attempt by Erick Baccus. Good luck Erick!

Did someone say "Walk on water"?

By Matt Van Arsdale (Xgamer13) on Thursday, April 19, 2012 - 08:40 am:

Speaking of Facebook.......... Pasty Cam needs a
Facebook fan page.

By J T (Jtinchicago) on Thursday, April 19, 2012 - 08:55 am:

To: Pasty Cam (net)

Pasty Cam / .net would be wise to avoid any direct or indirect linkage to FaceBook to maintain Pasty's independence.

Hi
In his attempt to break a world record for the farthest distance on a snowmobile, on water...what happens at the end? Is it like skipping a very large stone--it sinks? If so, I hope he's in shallow water at the time. If not, how will the snowmobile be recovered?

By Shirley Waggoner (Shirlohio) on Thursday, April 19, 2012 - 10:02 am:

I agree with you, JT. And not only to maintain Pasty's 'independence', but also its integrity!

By ILMHitCC (Ilmhitcc) on Thursday, April 19, 2012 - 10:45 am:

Speaking as a born and bred YooperFinn old f&rt, I have to agree with Matt.
That's a special and impressive skill Erick has! I can't help but wonder how many machines have been drowned in other's attempts to do this.

By Steve Haagen (Radsrh) on Thursday, April 19, 2012 - 11:03 am:

At the end of the run you head for the beach,
the sled takes off from the sand and if all goes
well will end on the beach where he started.

By Bob Williams (Wabbit) on Thursday, April 19, 2012 - 11:10 am:

If it sinks at the end. I wonder if he will incur a fine, like snow mobiles that fall through the ice and sink.

By Thomas Baird (Thomas) on Thursday, April 19, 2012 - 02:34 pm:

It's amazing how they do that!

By Janie T. (Bobbysgirl) on Thursday, April 19, 2012 - 02:39 pm:

Kathyl, they run the snowmobiles up on the shore, Fishing snowmobiles out of water is too costly. Plus they get to keep their snowmobiles to continue using.

By Just me (Jaby) on Thursday, April 19, 2012 - 07:19 pm:

I wonder how they do that?Good luck Erick!!!!!!!!

By Paul (612paul) on Friday, April 20, 2012 - 05:11 am:

Although it's done here, water skipping is illegal in Minnesota.
