These three turkeys were spotted by Melanie Hakala Rossi, when she was in the Nisula area. Looks like they were hanging out on the side of the road, maybe trying to hitch a ride with some passer-by. I hope they're smart enough to stay off the road or they're not going to be around long.

They aren't a real pretty bird, but there is still something beautiful about them. The markings and coloring on their feathers, the iridescent shine in certain light and the bright red and blue on their heads, all make for a unique combination and Melanie managed to capture it all.

Cool....first wild turkey I saw was in Delta County when I was leaving the Nahma Inn. It ran across the road in front of my car...and WOW...and when I got a bit closer, realized it was a turkey....way cool....Great shot Mel!

We have many wild turkeys strutting about the farm. They keep Brimley & Brody on guard!

What surprises me about wild turkeys is how fast they can run!

Leonardo da Vinci said that once you fly, you will walk with your eyes skyward. For there you have been, and there you will go again. Not so with our turkeys, they only take air when they have to, when pursued, or going up to or coming off roost. Must be a lot of work for those heavy fellows!

We found out they will take off in flight when they saw our Pearl colored Impala coming down the road. Aimed right for the middle of the hood. But the new hood looks great!

My AC/furnaceman came to do a job for me recently and on his way to my house he spotted a whole flock of wild turkeys in a field, just a short distance away.
Janie, we had an encounter like that when living in ND, only it was a pheasant....thankfully it survived and so did we.:) Just bent the antenna a bit.

Grilled pheasant sounds good, Shirley.

And I thought the only turkeys were in Lansing!

A few turkeys seemed to have survived the winter here in Keweenaw County, My wife and I have seen 5 so far this spring and Art Green of the Brockway hawk watch has heard them talking up on Brockway, probably eating the acorns up there.
