The fast melt of most of our snow here in the U.P., along with recent rains, have really made for some great viewing of the area falls. Joe Kirkish was recently on his way back from Marquette and he decided it was a good time to stop and check out the Canyon Falls, about 15 miles south of L'Anse. He described it so well, there was nothing I could say to improve upon it, so I'm going to turn the notes over to Joe:
"I stopped at the Canyon Falls - closed yet, but I found other cars parked outside the gate, so I just went in - and breaking the law was worth it.
These are not easy falls to photograph, but the ambiance of the whole area is what makes it special: the wildness of the trees that run to the shore, the flat rocks, the mineral color as the late afternoon sun comes through, the textures of the trunk roots that are so close to the surface, the smell of spring in the air and the sound of the water that never ends - it's really wonderful. I hope (after they clear the clutter of fallen trees from the path) others will be able to get down there while it's flowing so richly.
Thanks, Joe, for the pictorial tour and the description to accompany it... I swear I could smell the smells and hear that water rushing as I read your account of the visit.
