The Houghton Gremlin hockey team has a shot at the state title this year, with the semi-final tomorrow streamed on Pasty.NET, and (hopefully) the championship game on Saturday. Which previous year in today's review shows another local team of state champs?

That would be the Copper Kings in 2003!
I've been watching a Downy Woodpecker like in 2005 at my suet feeder, too. :)
There are some super nice pictures this morning!! WOW!!! The 2002 picture makes me wonder how these other states survive the snowfall because our snow just gets piled in mounds and it takes forever for them to get it taken care of. People always ask me how I survived the winters UP there with all the snow that's gotten. I always tell them that the men (or women) who plow the snow actually know what they're doing and maybe they have to plow all night. It's a whole new ball game when you leave that area. Good going Yoopers!!

I agree - wonderful photos today. Yes the snow plow drivers UP there are very skilled. They are good here in Evergreen, CO too and also plow through the night. We tend to get these storms with 2 to 3 feet of snow all at one time, several times a year. Once, in 2003, we had 7 feet (yes, that's correct, 7 feet) of snow in 3 days. Everything shut down and front end loaders came from other parts of the state to clear people out. It took 4 days to get roads really passable. Roofs groaned and some collapsed. Yep, the March snowstorm of '03 is one to remember.

There are a lot of different types of woodpeckers around here in summer but rarely ever see a pileated one....wonder why they are so rare?

Diana P. (Diana), loved the picture of the little "Woody". We have several at our suet feeder everyday, including the Pileated.
Going to experience spring for the next few days or so. Temps are going to be in the high 40s and low 50s. Gotta go find my shorts and flip-flops. :)

Thanks, Hollidays....they're such a pretty bird, just wish they could be seen more often. Part of our property is woods, and I'm pretty sure I've heard their 'call' often, but have only seen one 2 or 3 times in the 24 years we/I've lived here.

Shirley, the sound they make is like a "jungle" sound. When we hear "Big Boy & Big Girl", we know exactly who they are. The most beautiful sound ever heard, except for the Loon.

Hei Pastycammers. Don't forget to turn your clocks AHEAD 1 hour this Sat. night when you retire for the evening. We're losing the hour we gained last fall. :o)
