Good Monday Morning!!
That would be Chassell...
Bird
Two other birds beat you to Chassell

True, but technically the minute I cross the state line I'm in "A place to believe in"!! J

Great comment, Capt!!!! We always say that we can now breathe better once we've crossed, lol!

By Marianne Y (Marianne) on Monday, March 5, 2012 - 08:08 am:

Good Morning. I like today's photos, but especially 2007, winter takes hold. :-)

By Shirley Waggoner (Shirlohio) on Monday, March 5, 2012 - 09:23 am:

Deb, you're gettin' good at this! Capt., was that extra minute in bed this morning, worth it?;) Oh well, half a bird is better than none.
Congratulations to all of you.

By sometimesyooper (Nancyd) on Monday, March 5, 2012 - 09:30 am:

Peaks of Lake Superior is exceptional.

By Capt. Paul (Eclogite) on Monday, March 5, 2012 - 09:49 am:

Extra minute?? Heck, but the time the new page was posted I'd been to work for over an hour and a half already. Sometimes I really do feel like the old Army ad's though..... "We do more before 9 am, than most people do all day"!!

By Shirley Waggoner (Shirlohio) on Monday, March 5, 2012 - 10:06 am:

LOL! Capt. ;) I hear ya!

By Tom (Tom) on Monday, March 5, 2012 - 11:09 am:

All my life I always felt I was home when I crossed
into the UP. Glad others feel that way. Was a great place to grow up.

By Richard Wieber (Dickingrayling) on Monday, March 5, 2012 - 11:50 am:

Tom---Nice place to grow up, and cozy, too. In the 30s & 40s my world ended in four places, Copper Harbor, Ontonagon, the "Soo" and St. Ignace. Knew there were places beyond but couldn't care less. Seemed like everybody was kin to someone we knew. Never thought twice about picking up a hitch-hiker, they were somebody's family. The whole U.P. was family. Oh to be young and naive again.

By Diana P. (Diana) on Tuesday, March 6, 2012 - 08:05 am:

Similar story to Tom ... when I cross the Big Mac and reach the UP, I always stop at the Welcome Center, get out of the car, take a deep breath of fresh air, and feel like I'm "home" again. My parents lived in Houghton before I was born, I was born in Marquette where we lived briefly, but was raised in the LP where Dad found employment. Still, "home" to me is the UP ... that's where my roots are, and where generations of family before me have lived!

By Marianne Y (Marianne) on Tuesday, March 6, 2012 - 10:54 am:

I wish we could do that, Diana, but husband and son(s) are always starving, so we can't stop until the Burger King on US 2. It is a great BK, admittedly, and the people, both employees and customers are very friendly, but I would like to stop at the Welcome Center first.

By Diana P. (Diana) on Tuesday, March 6, 2012 - 12:58 pm:

Marianne, you probably know about the Welcome Center just south of Marquette on US 41, another place I always stop. If the Center itself is open (not just the lobby/restrooms), a radar weather map of Michigan can be viewed on their computer monitor (might want to ask them to "refresh" it), which might be a help in deciding which route to take heading downstate in snowy weather, as you described the other day. Glad it turned out okay for your travelers!

By Marianne Y (Marianne) on Tuesday, March 6, 2012 - 03:30 pm:

Thank you, Diana! I do know where the Marquette Welcome Center is. We'll have to try to stop there on our next trip. :-) When it's my Tech son & friends, they use me for radar information (from my home computer). I steered them south to US 2 on Saturday based on the radar; US 2 was much easier driving.
