With the warmer temperatures this past week, the animals have been moving around a bit more and Frederic W. Koski was on hand to capture a couple of them as they made their appearances. He snapped this weasel as it was peeking out of the woodpile. These little critters are all white in the winter and for the summer months turn brown on top and stay white underneath. You can see this guy's coat is beginning the change to the darker color again.

Frederic also spotted a partridge hanging out in a crabapple tree. It seems to be searching to see if there are any of those tasty little fruits left for it to munch on. This is the perfect time of year to snap up photos of these birds, since the leaves haven't begun to sprout yet, there's nothing to obscure the view of them. And what a view, they sure have beautiful markings amongst all those feathers.
It's good to see the creatures out and about again.

Since it isn't Christmas (276 days 2 go), I'll excuse the partridge 4 sitting in the crabapple tree (lol).

I was once told by the assistant engineer on the Ranger III that the weasel is so fast it can peek out at you from both ends of a woodpile at once. Pity we didn't have a wider photo of the woodpile to check that out.

Thats fast...and means that it could turn off the light and be in bed before the room got dark.

Neat photos.
Thanks for the laughs this morning, Thomas, Richard, and Alex.;)

Oh, I love the little weasel! Could it be one of the ermine variety? So cute.

Thomas, maybe the partridge is in a crabapple tree because it belongs to Scrooge?

Nice pictures.

Gee, I thought that was a partridge in a "bare" tree!
(We've seen him before.)

Nice shots! Like the one of the weasel. Like it has been said above they are very fast and getting a good photo of one is difficult. Then there is the pure mean nature of that whole tribe, one really doesn't want to corner one, a little weasel could ruin your day. His bigger cousins would ruin a whole week or month! One of my cousins used to raise mink, he was of the opinion that anyone who could breed a 200 pound mink could rule the world.
Anyhow, great shot Fredrick!

Weasels are kinda cute but they remind me of (ugh) rats, or big mice. :(

By george piker (Asturgeon) on Saturday, March 24, 2012 - 06:42 pm:

i've been told that there are no partridges
in michigan. that they are actually ruffed
grouse. can anyone correct that?

By Mike Schneider (Upmike) on Saturday, March 24, 2012 - 08:41 pm:

When I see the weasel the phrase that comes to mind is "Well hello There!". Nice pics.

My sweetie took some pictures of a squirrel under the tree next to the driveway. This squirrel has white around its eyes. Sure was cute.

Thomas, I thought the same thing when I saw that partridge. And Judy, that was hilarious! I love the pictures, also!
