Lindsay White was in Eagle River yesterday, to check out the flowage at the Eagle River Falls and boy, did she get there at the perfect time...the falls were raging with water. Both Saturday and Sunday, we hit temperatures in the upper 70's, here in the Keweenaw, so having the falls running like this in mid-March is quite unusual and usually takes place about a month from now. If you have a high speed connection, click on the following link to see a video Charlie made last year on March 25th, standing at the bottom of the falls. You'll get a better idea of what it looks like normally this time of year: Below Eagle River Dam.

The remaining photos, come to us from Marlin Wenberg, of the Otter Lake spillway, near Askel, which is located behind Arnheim on the Sturgeon River. Marlin says that with normal summer levels on the river there is about a 10' to 12' drop on the right side. He took the first two of his photos yesterday, showing the water level to be flowing right over the spillway. Marlin also snapped the last photo, but that was on May 2nd, last year and you can see that the water level was high then, too, but not as high as it is right now. He figures it's about 3 feet higher at this point. Interesting to see the differences and how far ahead we are on the melt down this spring.

The power of rushing flood waters is unbelievable!

I love the Eagle River Falls when it's in its glory like that. I almost never get to see it that way anymore because, even by the end of May, it's slowed way down!! Great photos!

Great photos!

We had a great time seeing the waterfalls yesterday. We wanted to go to the top of Brockway but, the road up there was still closed.

The last 3 photos remind me of a dream I've had repeatedly for many years...walking on a bridge low to the water and the water continues to rise. Have also had a similar dream of driving on a road with the same results. The dream usually appears when I'm running a fever. Spooky!

@Mickill Mouse-The westside road up Brockway was open when I went to the top of it yesterday? lol~

Wow! Upper 70s! Hard to believe how warm this winter and spring have been. Here in Florida, it's getting into the 80s during the day -- normally May temps. Scary to think what summer will be like. 8P I sure miss the UP.

The raptor migration is early this year too. I saw as many as eighteen circling Eagle Harbor at one time this past weekend. Ten of the eighteen were mature bald eagles.

All this warming and thawing while Alaska gears up to break their snowfall record in Anchorage.

That's a whopping 133 inch record for the folks in Anchorage. Enough to garner national media attention but I guess it's all relative to what you are used to.

The Forsythia in my back yard is in full bloom. I wonder if it will have second thoughts when there's another hard freeze. Some farmers here are contemplating an early planting. Hmmm.

I love the picture of Eagle River Falls in all of their majesty, even if it is rather early! Thank you, Lindsay and Mary! I had heard that there were Flood Advisories for the Trap Rock River at Lake Linden, so I'm not surprised to see the flooding in the other pictures. They are interesting, thanks.

Wow, 18 raptors. I'd have liked to have seen that. I hope a few of those bald eagles decide to stick around for the summer.

YOOPERGIRL03: The person we wanted to take up there, we can take another time. We were on a schedule. LOL...
