Winter on the shores of Lake Superior is fascinating indeed, as it is an ever changing scene each day. On a recent visit to her shores, Mike Schneider, found several active water volcanoes, one that was even spewing ice chunks high into the air. Pretty amazing water action to have captured with the camera. Included in the display, is a shot Mike snapped of the wave action just beyond the icy border, that creates such spectacular water displays for us to enjoy. Look closely and you'll see many different sizes of icy chunks swirling around in those waves. I'm guessing you wouldn't want to be around when the spray splashes up, as you might just get knocked out with Superior ice!

I don't know Mary; I'm certain the icy sprays of these volcanoes beats the sprays out of the other variety....

Great shots, Mike!!

The second photo looks like one of the small geysers seen in Yellowstone Natl. Park. Pretty!

hi
This is something I have never seen in person. I have seen Great Lakes ice formations, but never during high wave action. I was up at our cabin near Cheboygan on February 18 and 19. There was not much on-shore ice---I could have gone for a beach walk---but I did see a pretty display Sunday morning. The offshore ice was tinted pink-gold with the dawn light.

Capt:
I couldn't agree more. These volcanos are a whole lot cooler...

Beautiful. Hoping the lake is not throwing ice chunks at our little cottage!
