Often overlooked, the Cheerleaders are an integral part of the Huskies basketball program, as they cheer the team on and get the crowd involved more in the game. The MTU Cheer Team, doesn't just stand around on the sidelines, either, as Bob Gilreath's photos show us today. That's Bob's daughter, Sarah, in the middle of the first photo. Again, that's her on the left, in the air, in the second photo and once again, touching her toes in the air in the third photo. These young people are quite the athletes to be performing stunts such as these. It must take a tremendous amount of trust in your fellow teammates to let them throw you up in the air like that. I asked Bob if it was hard to watch all that taking place with his daughter and his reply was that, "Mom freaks out every time." No kidding...I would too, but I bet Bob breathes a sigh of relief when she's safely back in the arms of her teammates...he doesn't fool me. ;->

With my old bones cracking and popping this morning, seeing these photos doesn't help the situation.:) But thanks to Bob, and Mary for these 'reminders' of younger days.

Great action shots and very talented MTU Cheerleaders! As a mom ... don't know if I could watch, though ... I would definitely be praying! :)

I thought that lady in the middle of the first photo looked awfully familiar. Sarah has definitely grown-up since the last time I remember seeing her Bob....
One thing I can say about this cheerleading group; I see they have mats on the hardwood floor "just in case" in the first two photos. Smart students those Huskies!!

Great pictures, Bob G! I'm with your wife, though, every time my daughter was in the air, if she were my daughter! They are talented athletes, and cheerleading has become a dangerous sport, with the more daring cheers and stunts than they used to do, as evidenced by visits to the ER every year, according to the statistics, based on nationwide ER stats, not local. Be safe, young ladies! Go Huskies!

Nice pics! The girl in the third photo is definitely UP there.
In Michigan high schools there is sideline cheering and competitive cheering. Youngsters here in southeast Michigan have private gyms where the get original instructions ($$$$*) Our local Gibraltar High has been state champion in Division 2 now for 3 out of the last 4 years and are about to start to defend their competive title within a few days. When our oldest daughter had tryouts for the team the competition is so tough that they get outside judges to keep family influence to a minimum.
