Barb Bouwkamp was out and about in Laurium, when the snowflakes were flying earlier this month and she spotted this dog who seems to be watching something quite intently. I'm guessing its owner was nearby or maybe the dog was just fascinated by the falling snow and was thinking about trying to catch some snowflakes on its tongue. Maybe not....

The other two photos Barb snapped, show two of the snow removal methods used here UP North. Many of you will recognize the Yooper Scooper in the second photo and if you're wanting one for your very own, you can purchase them from one of our Pasty Cam sponsors, Silver Bear Manufacturing. They even make an optional wheel kit for the scoops now.

The last picture is how Yoopers remove the snow when there's more than a scooper can handle...a plow truck. The plus side of this snow removal tool, is that you sit inside a warm truck to operate it, but the down side is the price of gas, which you don't incur if you use a scoop or a shovel. So, there you have it, the choice is yours.

P.S. Don't forget what today is... wish your sweetie a Happy Valentine's Day!

Dogs do love the snow! And that Yooper Scooper is awesome! I bought the original thing and hauled it out here because they don't have anything made that good out here. People are jealous:)

I think the dawg just be chillin.

By Shirley Waggoner (Shirlohio) on Tuesday, February 14, 2012 - 09:11 am:

Well I guess you could call him a "chili dog". At least it looks like he's made himself a 'warm' nest in the snow. Very cute.
Don't even want to think about snow shovels...used my share of them in N.D. in the 1980s.:<

The URL above will take you to an expanded look at this year's MTU winter carnival.

As one post to the alum newsletter noted, the Tech hockey team is showing great strides in regaining respectability in collegiate hockey, way to go Huskies !

A Happy snowy Valentine's Day.

Thanks, Janie. I was wondering what breed he is. A big ol' snuggy bear.:)

By JH (Thumbgardener) on Tuesday, February 14, 2012 - 05:16 pm:

I love the Bernese Mountains dogs. We met someone in dog classes that has one named Ralphie, what a sweet dog! Unfortunately they don't have a very long lifespan. We have a smaller breed of the Swiss mountain dog.

Oh my, 'Thumbgardener', I didn't know about their short lifespan...such a shame. Someone that lived near our daughter years ago had a white Burnese. BIG doggy and so pretty. Your entlebucher-breed is a cutey too. (hope I spelled that correctly)

We have a Silver Bear Yooper Scooper! And it is AWESOME! The wheel kit works out great. Happy Valentines Day to everyone!

Shirley a white Bernese? Or did you mean a Great Pyrenees?

By Shirley Waggoner (Shirlohio) on Wednesday, February 15, 2012 - 09:29 am:

You're right, Janie, my daughter corrected me on that. Yes, it was a Great Pyrennes. Thanks.:)
