The weather has been perfect lately for getting out and exploring UP North. Today we join Taana Kalliainen and friends on their adventure in the Freda/Redridge area, where they found some impressive ice on the cliffs. It always amazes me to see large walls of ice like this, since it's so hard to imagine the water flowing freely down the rock wall and freezing right in place like that. Nature creates some astonishing artwork, we just have to get out there and find it.
Did anybody get any shots of the artwork at Tech overnight? The snow sculptures will be judged today as Winter Carnival week continues.

How cool is that to be that close, up close and personal.

Sorry not this year for me at Winter Carnival. Hope someone else got the great shots. Have missed the last 2 WCs and still need someone to pick up buttons and pictorials for me. As for the ice flow I once took the snow shoe trip down Eagle River form Pheonix and found a blue ice wall part way down the river that was truly spectacular. It was great to get out in a very heavy snow cover and walk on water. Winter in the CC may be cold but I think it is one of the best seasons. And NO BUGS!

Love the last photo, 'Icy Cliff', and I agree with you, Mary, it is so amazing how that comes to be....freezing cascades!

Congratulations to all of the statue builders! They did a great job, especially considering the adverse conditions, of the warmup, this year! Way to go, students!

I wanted to share a story about icekles, but tonight I can't spell it. Would totally distract from the story.

I further note now that someone already spelled it. Oh well.
