"FRNASH
2008 should be Mackinaw not Mackinac."
Well except for ships, I do know that about the only thing that is Mackinaw is the City: Mackinaw City, (actually it is technically a village, not a city) all the rest are Mackinac!
So as to ships, I had to do a bit of research:
As for USCG Cutters, we may have a small dilemma:
The picture was taken in 1958, so here is the dilemma:
1. USCGC Mackinac (WAVP-371), in service from 1949 to 1967.
2. USCGC Mackinaw (WAGB-83), an icebreaker in commission from 1944 to 2006.
3. USCGC Mackinaw (WLBB-30), an icebreaker in commission since 2006.
Depending on which (#1 or #2) is shown in the picture, either spelling could be right!
