We're already coming to the end of the second week of 2012 and we've had the first full moon of the year this week, so when I spotted these night time scenes, I thought they'd be a nice change-up to draw this week to a close.
The Backyard Moonrise photo was taken in Three Lakes, by Frederic W. Koski. I don't know if it's his backyard or not, but it sure is a beautiful scene with the wispy clouds and the specks of starlight joining the moon, as it makes its appearance for the night.
The eerie looking night scene in the number two spot today, comes from Robert C. Wetton, showing us another side of the moon, when the clouds and haze give it a more mysterious presence.
The moon isn't showing in our last photo from, Rylie Store, who shares a glimpse of her family cabin in the Bete Grise area. But even without the glow of the full moon surrounding it, the cabin lights give it a nightly glow that outlines the building quite nicely.
We don't always get out in the evening hours to explore and enjoy the U.P. beauty in the dark, but when presented like today's photos, it makes you want to get out there to find some nightly treasures of your own... which Charlie did as this full moon retired for the night...

That's right, Mary. I finally achieved my longtime ambition of photographing the full moon setting into Lake Superior the day these pictures were taken:
Folks who have been visiting the Pasty Cam for awhile may recall a piece I wrote back in in '99 titled: "Keweenaw Moon" - about the difficulty of low-light nighttime photos. On Monday when the full moon was setting, there was just enough dawn glow to see the dunes and trees between our bedroom window and the Lake. It was my cell phone this time (low resolution) that allowed me to capture the sight as the moon sank into the endless water on the horizon:
