When Lake Superior is splashing and the wind is blowing, interesting things begin to take shape on the shoreline. Steve Brimm snapped some prime examples last week one day, out at Hunter's Point in Copper Harbor. Sheets of ice with pebbles embedded, wind-blown coating and icy tentacles are just a few of the many formations along the Big Lake's shoreline. And then Steve gives us a look at the scene where the ice shots came from. Yes indeed, Hunter's Point wears an icy face in the winter months.

That second one looks like some kind of creepy ice monster. LOL Great shots!

Excellent!

Great shots, Steve!!
Interesting last shot to make the waves look "frosty" as well...

When I saw the first photo, I thought I was looking at a bucket of squid.;) Good work, Mr. Brimm, but how long did it take you to thaw out after that trek?

By Rowdy (Roudymi) on Wednesday, January 11, 2012 - 11:50 am:

The first one looks upside down, but then when I stand on my head and look at it, it still looks upside down. How do you do that???

By Donna (Donna) on Wednesday, January 11, 2012 - 12:52 pm:

AGATES! Honestly made me drool! LOL

By Janie T. (Bobbysgirl) on Wednesday, January 11, 2012 - 01:55 pm:

Awesome pictures, but that's no wonder, they were taken in Copper Harbor! Love that little town!

By Thomas Baird (Thomas) on Wednesday, January 11, 2012 - 02:57 pm:

Great pictures from a different point of view. The first one in particular makes an interesting study.

Have never been to Hunter's Point ~ perhaps next Spring/Summer will be the time!

By Jack K (Jackinct) on Wednesday, January 11, 2012 - 07:23 pm:

Love today's photos! Thanks Steve!

You are right Capt...the last photo is mesmerizing. It’s like a dream.

By Mike Schneider (Upmike) on Wednesday, January 11, 2012 - 08:07 pm:

By mickill mouse (Ram4) on Wednesday, January 11, 2012 - 08:14 pm:

fantastic pictures, love them.

By Steve Brimm (Sbrimm) on Thursday, January 12, 2012 - 04:37 am:

Thanks everyone! Hunters point is a beautiful stretch of shore
guarding Copper harbor from the every present westerlies. Now a
park, it is a wonderful place to take a hike all year around.

Rowdy, we have a thing called the 'copper harbor inversion factor'
or CHIF, where everything here looks upside down. That's why we
are quite unique :)

By James W. Hird (Wvyooper) on Thursday, January 12, 2012 - 08:08 pm:

I can almost spot them agates from here. But I guess I would need an ice pick not a rock hammer.
