This group of guys take their hockey games seriously. You can tell by the lights they have set up for their night time games. Michelle Jeffery was the official game photographer and she told me that her boys, her husband, his brother and some of the neighbor kids all get together for some fierce competition, and they usually have enough participants for two full teams. I'm not sure if you'd call this boot hockey or maybe just backyard hockey, but call it what you will, they sure look to be having a good time. Just another great way to enjoy the outdoors here in the Keweenaw and an especially good way to keep our young kids busy and off the streets. Kudos to the Jeffery clan for spending quality time with their kids and those of their neighbors, too.

Good times in the snow! I'm really missing the snowfall here for us. About 5 in. would be nice.

One of the guys I work with is in charge of making the ice here. He is getting pretty frustrated! It just doesn't get cold enough, but I think by Thursday, he'll get his wish!

We got 5 inches yesterday morning....... of rain, and it happened in less than 30 minutes!! Flooded everything out around here. For a while I was wondering if I was going to be stuck at the office, but the waters drained away fairly quickly and I was able to get home by my normal time.

Good Morning. That looks like a game of modified broomball to me, but using a hockey stick instead of a broom. :-)

With the temperature in Houghton today predicted to go up to 40, I wonder if my son's broomball game at Da Tech will have to be postponed tonight because of poor ice conditions?

I heard about that rain Capt. Paul. Maybe you
should start keeping a boat at your office.

5 in of rain = 50 in. of snow, and in Texas. Good Times! Not!

Hi
I'm not sure when the hockey game was, but last night was a bright full moon; Saturday and Sunday were good too. I used to go cross-country skiing at night without lights, out in open country. Either moonlight or overcast with reflected city light (yes, I was on a public golf course) worked fine; starlight was more of a challenge.

more weather reports.

Ah, I remember the nighttime sled rides down our hill....cold, but lots of fun playing in the snow when you're young.
Capt. Paul, glad you made it home alright...the 'good' thing about those heavy downpours/flash flooding in TX and parts West, they don't last long.

Capt. Paul, I guess that helps make up for some of the drought last year.

Looks like some of the street hockey I ued to play in Buffalo New York. No skates needed there either, just had to stop for the cars and clear the goal off the street. Of course that was 1958 so no one said too much about use playing in the street. We did fine till the salt truck finally made it to out area luckily on weekends they did not bother.

By Capt. Paul (Eclogite) on Tuesday, January 10, 2012 - 06:09 pm:

I had heard earlier today that all the rain yesterday helped, but we are still about 15 inches below where we should be. I was out in the field today north of Houston and there is a lot of standing water still out in fields and also in many of the ditches alongs roads. All of the rivers and streams are also running high as well.
