The blast from the past sure looks like the Painesdale area today!

Looks a little snowy. We had an earthquake yesterday. Doesn't happen very often.

I think it's so remarkable that we can just click on an 'address' in the above post, and WOW! there's a picture of what Mt. St. Helen's looks like at that moment in time!!! Hope it never erupts as much as it did May 18, 1980. Tho, they seem to be predicting another large eruption sometime in the future.

Why Yooper, I see that you are on the same page as the rest of us...literally. :) This rule generally works: Friday comes before Saturday :)

Sometimes I'm fascinated as to how different the state of science is on both sides of the atlantic. I'm currently working on a paper about research on urban forestry in places like Sacramento, San Jose (hi Bthecute1) and Chicago, which is way further advanced than what we've got here.
On the other hand, the article linked to by Roudy on today's main page - salt MAY harm?!? It most certainly does. And that's news?

Out here in Indiana, (about 50 miles west of Chicago), they use a pure salt mix too...not sand or even a mixture of sand and salt. I still wince when I see it. And how much salt do they pour on the roads out here? If you have your window opened just a crack, you can not only smell it, but taste it in your mouth. Can only imagine the damage that does to the environment.

About urban forestry in Chicago...ROFL...they have trees in Chicago? All that salt they pour on the road killed whatever grows out that way :)

Yeah I caught that after it posted. Meant to say that we are 50 miles east of Chicago. Oooopsy.

Sur5er...about that carrot cake! I have a recipe that will knock your socks off (and maybe other things too if you're not careful!) It's called Blue Ribbon Carrot Cake and I can sure understand why. But it's not an easy or quick thing....takes some time, but well worth it if you're an afficiando. Will try and remember to dig it out of my recipe file and send it maybe tomorrow night when I get in. Don't remember from whom I got it...would love to give credit, but my memory has gone too far down memory lane! :)

Sur5er...and any other interested parties...:) just went into Google and keyed in "Blue ribbon carrot cake" (in quotes) and up the recipe popped! It appears to be the same one I have...and now can give credit where it's due...Southern Living magazine. Go ahead and try it....you'll like it! :) Actually, you're gonna LOVE it!

Thank you for the recipe, I will definately have to give that one a try. I haven't seen a carrot cake recipe that has pineapples in it...and I love pineapple...yum.

The recipe I have is for the Cheese Cake Factory's Carrot Cake. If anyone wants it, email me and I will send it your way.

About that carrot cake while up at the cabin in the northern woods: 1) I didn't have my kitchenaid mixer; 2) I cheated...and used a cake mix...which really didn't count as cheating, because of #1; 3) After I broke the camp's 'good' plastic spoon trying to mix the cake, I stepped up operations and switched to 4) the potato masher to mix...which worked, but made operations a little sloppy.

Anywho, it turned out pretty good...but then again, up north, anything tastes good after a long day :)

Sur5er...you're right...ANYTHING & EVERYTHING tastes better UP north! And those guys at the camp got a great deal....a carrot cake for a plastic spoon...sounds like a pretty good trade to me :) Busy night tonight....seems like every juvenile in the county has stolen every vehicle in the county...and they're all running amuck and driving me crazy...or is that crazier?! Better get back to work....

ROFL...can't tell because it's raining/cloudy here...but is there a full moon out tonight? I remember nights like those at the department...it would either be so quiet, or downright crazy...no in between.

And when it gets really crazy, you begin to ask yourself, "I signed up for this?" :) Aaaaaaaah, Friday nights...always makes for an interesting day in the courthouse on Monday mornings.

Regarding the "mountain" in the mine picture --
At what elevation does a hill become a mountain? I have asked science teachers and they don't know either. So far I have only been answered, "Good question."
