Just had a chance to check over this weekend's Cam Notes and What's UP. Charlie; thanks so much for the very cheery quotation following "What do you think is the best thing about being 104?" She carefully thought about it and replied: "No peer pressure".

I had just passed another birthday and was feeling a little down. This cheered me up greatly though I have a LONG way to 104!
Bless you all for good pics, good conversation, a good memories of the Copper Country.

Good morning, I was wondering if anyone on here can read Finn. I have a paper written in Finish about my Great Grandparents, and if I have no clue what it says. Thank you

I see nice fluffy strands of white yarn.

Good morning everyone :)

Lz, please don't look upon birthdays as a sign that you are growing older. Instead, look at each passing of a birthday as an achievement, and how fortunate you are to still be alive. So chin up (it makes that facial sag appear less noticeable :), and enjoy your victory. Cha cha cha!

On a totally different subject, the WHITEHOUSE in Mohawk opened Friday evening; just beverage service for the next few weeks. Can't wait for the return of another option for good food in the CC.

Regarding biirthdays, here's something I saw once:
"When I was 20, I worried about what people thought of me;
When I was 30, I didn't care what they thought of me;
When I was 40, I found out they weren't thinking about me"

Sorta goes to the whole peer pressure question.

Wondering,

Try this Finnish translation dictionary and see if it helps.

How long before you get to retire and move to the UP sur5er? Sounds like you are ready to go. Maybe you will get bored with retirement....it sounds like you are terribly busy. Retirement kinda scares me....worked all my life and I'm afraid I won't have enough to keep me busy.

By sur5er on Monday, March 14, 2005 - 05:26 pm:

Curious,

Hubby retires in about 15 years. Although he was just asking me this weekend, "I'm sure I could find another driving job in the UP, eh".

In the meantime, I am trying to find a job in victimology at the law enforcement level in the UP, (any police chiefs or sheriffs in the UP reading this: Sur5er needs a job), so I can move up to the UP ahead of hubby and work on our retirement home.

Me retire? No way, I love working so much with crime victims, I couldn't walk away from them (although that wasn't the tune I was singing last week on a particular case). I'll probably be working with crime victims until I am at least in my 90's. Besides, I am one of those people that always has to be doing something.

Wondering...I know a woman here in our R.V. park in Texas who came to U.S. at age 10. She can read Finn, I understand. If you can give me some email address she can contact you at, maybe she could help you.

By Bthecute1/Beverly, San Jose on Monday, March 14, 2005 - 11:25 pm:

Cutie in Michigan: I do not think it is bragging when someone is enthused about their job. It sounds to me like sur5er has a very exciting job, and she enjoys sharing that with us. I believe it takes a certain someone to have to deal with the people she does, and must say, I admire that. Whether it is a fun job or at times where one observes extreme cruelty, sometimes it helps to share it with others as a matter of relief, when she sees what society does to one another. I know from personal experience.

Bthecute1/Beverly,

Thank you so very much...and yes, in my field you have to have that spark of enthusiasm.

And Cutie, I wasn't bragging...not by any means...just trying to get home to the UP, eh ;)

By Hay is for horses on Tuesday, March 15, 2005 - 01:04 am:

Cutie- How could you read Sur5ers post and think she was bragging? I don't get it???

By maijaMI on Tuesday, March 15, 2005 - 07:54 am:

Cutie: I AM lazy, and I wasn't offended by sur5er's comments!

By insight on Wednesday, March 16, 2005 - 05:52 am:

Cutie, I agree with your comment. If one does a good job, they don't have to pat themselves on the back...... Their work should speak for itself. I was taught this in school a hundred years ago by a wonderful school teacher.

Thank you Mrs. Youd.

By sur5er on Wednesday, March 16, 2005 - 10:19 am:

Cutie and Insight,
If you only knew ;) Taking back my life and achieving my goals were once considered insurmountable odds. I like Beverly's term: enthusiastic....and I hope my enthusiasm is contagious.
