By Beverly, San Jose on Wednesday, March 2, 2005 - 06:43 am:

To everyone that read the exchange of words on this wonderful website, on the Monday's What's Up, I want to apologize to all.

By Beverly, San Jose on Wednesday, March 2, 2005 - 05:34 am:
to danbury and especially Ser5er. I want to sincerly apologize for the meanness of my words towards the both of you. I know that words cannot be taken back once spoken, and I really feel bad for what I did. Please forgive me.

By sur5er on Wednesday, March 2, 2005 - 07:06 am:

Beverly,

No offense was taken...it was just a debate with different views...that's all. And likewise, I hope I didn't say anything that offended you.

By sur5er on Wednesday, March 2, 2005 - 07:09 am:

Good morning! Time to rise and shine! Hope everyone has a great day. After a long night of doing paperwork, I am going to catch some zzzz's. Believe it or not, I think my pile of paperwork is gradually dwindling. Hmmm...this looks promising, eh :)

Pat Roche,

Thanks for Mikes address and sorry about the spelling. It's been awhile and I just couldn't remember. He sent me an e-mail and I just replied to him. By the way, I'm in Joliet.

Thanks for the link - it's nice to see Mika Salo looking so handsome ;)
So many good drivers come out of Finland..... there must be something in Finnish genes that makes for good reflexes!

By K in the UK on Wednesday, March 2, 2005 - 01:56 pm:

If the very nice PastyCam reader called Brenda happens to see this - my other email account (a yahoo one) had it's entire inbox contents deleted by my fellow account user (husbands - they always get carried away with 'maintenance').
Due to this I have the horrible feeling I owe you an email.......I am sorry! :( He says he 'thinks' there was something there a few weeks ago, but he 'thought' I had already seen it. Men and thinking - not to be encouraged ;))
(yes, joking, nobody yell at me please!)

It's been an interesting week in this part of England. 2 inches of snow and several hundred schools were shut down. I don't think people in the UP even *notice* 2 inches of snow ;) I was talking to my UP inlaws on the weekend and they were saying they had over a foot just that day.... if that happened here I think it would be a national emergency :)

I always enjoy reading the boards here - and I hope everyone has a great day/night/appropriate time period of your part of the world :)

K.

What part of the UK do you hail from?

By danbury on Wednesday, March 2, 2005 - 02:45 pm:

KJinUK, if you've ever seen a young Finn covering a backroad in the woods there with what they call driving (actually, it calls for a pilot's license), you know where all that talent comes from! :D

Remember Flat Stanley from a few weeks ago? I thought Clint Eastwood was holding him in a picture from the Oscars. Sure enough, there's an article on CNN (website)this afternoon telling about him.

Thanks for pointing that out! Here's a link to the CNN article:

yeah, but i was trying to give people a chance to express a little personal opinion (maybe a little debate??). just kidding. i've only had the ones made by the baraga fire fighters and a little restaurant in hancock (name slips me). i didn't mean any disrespect to charlie or anyone at still waters.

By KJ in the UK on Wednesday, March 2, 2005 - 05:49 pm:

Hello Mr Bill,
We currently live in Suffolk - just near the two American air bases of Lakenheath and Mildenhall (my Yooper-bloodline husband is in the USAF).
(Personally I'm from New Zealand originally though!) Is there a particular part of the UK you have an interest in? :)

Hi danbury:
Ah, so it's definitely the Finnish genes then - if AmeriFinns are just as speed-oriented as the current Finns! I watch Formula One and World Rally racing, and in both sports there are WAY more top Finns then you'd expect from such a relatively small country.
My inlaws tell me there's a rally every year near them (Kenton) so perhaps the spirit lives on :)

By Sun Bonnet Sue on Wednesday, March 2, 2005 - 07:21 pm:

Beverly, I thought you had a right to speak your piece. As I read the dialog, it is very obvious if you aren't a Yooper, you are frowned upon. It's ashame it's that way as we bring revenue to the UP, and respect the Yoopers when there, but for whatever reason it's just that way. Too bad, I'm sure we're all nice in our own way, think? I like to flush the toilet and take a hot shower....does that make me less of a person? or you? Don't think so. I enjoy what each and everyone of you bring to this site so shape up you "Pasty Cammers".

By Charles in Adrian, MI on Wednesday, March 2, 2005 - 07:35 pm:

I see a fellow in Denver is hungry for pasties. I agree that the
ones from Pasty.com are very good. We ordered some for
Christmas, and they came promptly and were quite tasty. They
are pretty good-sized too.
I must say, though, that if you want the kind of pasties served
at The Captain's Table in the heavens above, then you need two
things. First, you need really good cook, then you need an
authentic recipe from one of those Cornish families that brought
that dish with them when they settled in the Copper Country
150 years ago.
At our house we have both of those ingredients. My wife can
really cook! Beyond that, we got back in the 1960s a recipe for
pasties from the Rosemurgy family of Escanaba (with branches
in Iron Mountain and Ontonagon -- all busy selling Ford cars
and trucks when not eating pasties and whistling oldtime
hymns). As soon as I bit into my first authentic pasty, I knew I
had hit gold when it came to pasties. Sad to say, just tonight we
consumed the last two from a batch my wife made some time
ago. I have found, by the way, the way to get my wife to bake
up some more is to pop some frozen pasties from the grocery
store into the oven. I even like those (a littlr), and they certainly
suggest to my wife that maybe it is time to make some more.
If you are wondering how to find a recipe for the "real deal,"
you might hit up some garage sales this spring and summer in
the U.P. and look for recipebooks put out by churchgroups and
such over the years. There is a lot of U,P. heritage in those
wonderful cookbooks!

Please be sure that you order your pasties from a place that is USDA inspected, and thus can legally ship pasties across state lines (in interstate commerce)!

You can order some of the best pasties in the world
right here online. Unlike most of the other local pasty shops across the U.P., Still Waters pasties are made under USDA inspection. Strictly speaking, USDA compliance is the only way any organization can legally ship pasties to purchasers in other areas. If you ever order pasties online or by phone, be sure to verify that the provider is USDA inspected.

Charlie, How did Still Waters do on the donation drive last month? Did we help out at all? Hope so.

By Charlie at Pasty Central on Thursday, March 3, 2005 - 06:27 am:

Karen,

There were a number of gifts received, both online and through the mail, which is always VERY helpful toward making ends meet at Still Waters. Actually, the "drive", as you put it, was started by a couple of Pasty Camwatchers who thought we were discontinuing the Pasty Cam. For whatever reasons, every dollar of support sent to this non-profit Home for the Aged is greatly appreciated.

Charles in Adrian--- I've got one of those old cookbooks (Copper Country Cooking), put out by the Methodist Church in Houghton in the '30s. There's no date on the book, but I can date it since I know my aunt and her family moved to Denver in '40, and the cook book lists her as chairman of the Business Committee. I can tell you the pasty recipes are great, just don't go into a super market and try to buy lard, LOL.
