Here I am again talking skiing, only this time it's cross country, not downhill. Which, even though it tends to be with less or no hills, still takes a bit of precision balancing at times. So once again I will stick with my trusty old snowshoes, instead! It looks like Hilary and her hubby Nate Alwine, along with their trusty canine companion have no problem maneuvering the trails around Fumee Lake at all. Seems like a great way to tour the 1808 acre natural wilderness area in Breitung Township, which boasts two lakes, along with trails for skiing in the winter and mountain biking in the summer months. If you'd like to view this area in person, you'll have to head to Iron Mountain/Norway for the skiing time. After I finish this up, I may just have to set out on a road-trip myself, packing my snowshoes and maybe a pasty picnic lunch!

When does the spring thaw come to Finland? Here 'just south of the (Mackinac) Bridge' it comes in April. If you look at the back of your left hand, I am along the left side of the middle finger. That is the lower Peninsula of Michigan. No matter how far I roam, I always carry my home with me. :)

Thank you for the interesting Finnish photos. No wonder so many of our Finnish forefathers settled in Northern Michigan... it does look familiar. I've been enjoying your comments to Pasty.com.

I have a friend whose cousin is a forester near Marquette. He buys Paansi (I could be spelling that wrong) harvesters. They are amazing. They can travel through the woods where there are no roads, no clear-cutting. They can cut, debranch, debark, cut to lengths, categorize according to type of wood on a computer, and stack a tree in a matter of a few minutes.

My friend said about Finland that all the buildings are beautifully built, and that restaurants, motels, public halls, homes, are all pristinely clean. Wonderful, friendly people!

Spring air is now near FINNboys!!! Snow is few tens of centimetres,but AURINKO PAISTAA!!!

I think Swedetown trails are great to ski on-----I see lot of cars going in there anyway--lol-lol

I gave my Globe away.Isn't the U.P. and Finland on the same paralell? For those of you in Dollar Bay,that means if you put your finger easy on the Globe,a.k.a.Mother Earth,and keep it straight as you spin it you would run into Finland.This is maybe why jAPEi said it looks alot like over there eh,in less words then that.

Does anyone know the score of the Calumet/Hancock hockey game this afternoon? I sure would appreciate that information. I listened to the first period, which was scoreless, on Pasty.net but I couldn't get hooked up for the rest of the game for some reason. Thanks.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think when jAPEi said, "not I pull pea soup my nose into" (speaking of asking people to email him to see his pictures because they changed the formatting of this page) he meant basically "my nose won't get out of joint." If you think about it, another stange expression that people who do not speak American English may find very confusing!

In-Chior-ing Mind in da south

Dollar Bay is on the same parallel as Southern Germany. Hard to believe but I think it has something to do with the warm trade winds out of the Caribbean that make things a little milder in Europe. (Any geography experts out there?) Helsinki, Finland would be on the same parallel as Canada's Northwest Territory or the southern part of Alaska.
