Splendid picture. There's something about
the big moon. My students do act a little
crazier whenever the moon is full. Of course, I
do teach in a children's mental health center..
Still and all, I think the rest of us may be a little
loonier then too. Any thoughts about that?
Scientific or folkloric?

By smf in troll land on Thursday, February 24, 2005 - 05:38 am:

Good morning. Great picture!

By Cindy, St. Clair Shores, MI on Thursday, February 24, 2005 - 05:50 am:

Kosk, I agree that there is truly something about the full moon that makes kids crazier. This is my 27th year of teaching and I can tell you without looking at the calendar when there is a full moon. I've also heard that from people who work in hospitals, especially in emergency rooms, so I guess it's not just kids. I think there's definitely something to it.

Does it pull the water to the hydrocephalic centre? and there
work it's magic? wheee! seriously tho, my mater was a teacher
for over 50 yrs. and she felt the same way, unfortunately; to
have both the "teach" and the pupils go wacky was a wierd hoot.

Good morning from Dexter, Michigan!

By Marsha, Genesee/Aura on Thursday, February 24, 2005 - 08:18 am:

That's called the Full Snow Moon, according to the Farmers' Almanac. Some tribes call it the Full Hunger Moon for obvious reasons. My late mother-in-law, who was an OB nurse, always said there were more babies born during the full moon. I'll have to observe how my students act today (and my husband).

By sur5er on Thursday, February 24, 2005 - 08:35 am:

Good morning ya'll :) Hubby didn't get home until midnight last night, after his truck broke down. But he was in great spirits...something about ten hours of down time and a trip to Sears for some new tool with his windfall :)

Looking at our weather for the next week...where'd all the snow go?

By Lily, MI on Thursday, February 24, 2005 - 08:47 am:

I process payroll for 22 employees and during the week of a full moon there are numerous errors on the timesheets! It takes me twice as long to process them, having to track down numerous people for clarification. You wrote down what??

By CR FL on Thursday, February 24, 2005 - 09:10 am:

Of course the full moon has an effect....look how it effects the tides ... and our bodies are made up of lots of water. I work with kids and see it every month. The energy level SOARS. Love the moon pic.

By LZ, MI on Thursday, February 24, 2005 - 09:27 am:

Some years ago, a psychologist Dr.Arnold Lieber, evaluated the effects of full-moon or “lunacy”. (Book is the Lunar Effect). Dr. Lieber reviewed almost 2000 homicides in Miami over a period of 15 years. His findings correlated rises in homicide rates during full moons. Also hundreds of surgical cases were reviewed by catagory (say tonsilletomy) and incidents of high surgical related bleeding was observed in a waxing moon cycle. Supposedly more male children are born in waxing moons also! Sorry TMI, an area of personal interest. :>

By Lifetime Yooper, Calumet on Thursday, February 24, 2005 - 11:02 am:

Hubby and I were out for a walk last night. The sky was clear and star filled, with a beautiful deep blue hint of color to it. Also, there was a huge ring around the moon. I wonder what that means?

By Kit on Thursday, February 24, 2005 - 11:06 am:

Full moon, yes! It stirs up the parasites in your body. Thats why we can feel it and see moodiness and restlessness in kids.

Just traveled 36 miles round trip to get pasties from the Masonic Lodge. Taking them tomorrow, 44 miles round trip to a dear friend who had major surgery. Boy, the aroma is wonderful. I told one of the old fellas there to check out Pasty .com. Oh, my favorite website is www.havayork.homestead.com. Everyone have a great weekend.....

By sur5er on Thursday, February 24, 2005 - 12:52 pm:

Liz,

I agree with you, the full moon definately has an impact on people. Dispatch at the PD was always kept hopping during full moons. And on nights, when there was a lot of radio activity, a common phrase was, "is there a full moon tonight?"

My favorite full moons are the ones which hang so low in the sky, that it looks like you can almost reach out and touch it.

By sur5er on Thursday, February 24, 2005 - 12:57 pm:

Lifetime Yooper,

Here's a site about rings around the moon.

http://home.hiwaay.net/~krcool/Astro/moon/moonring/

Something about ice crystals...but others use the rings to predict storms.

Lifetime Yooper --

Here's a link to a non-scientific explanation of what a ring around the moon means. Enjoy!

I used to work in a hospital with the mentally ill. Although we joked about the full moon and all, statistics did not prove that our patients were more difficult at that time. Perhaps some medical staff just made note of activities as they believed it to be true.

After Pasty.com & Mining Gazette, I usually go to my 2nd home in North Bend, Or. on the coast; here: http://www.or.blm.gov/coosbay/webcam/wx.htm} Some days it's not updated - BLM guys doing something else?

By danbury on Thursday, February 24, 2005 - 02:57 pm:

I like to check out Duluth Shipping News occasionally, think it's duluthshippingnews.com. Fascinating idea to have a harbour that far inland. Never been there, but we'll see about that some day.

By the way, Dick, thanks again for the info on the tea. However, got a mail supposedly from the same adress, but had a virus in it, and the headline made no sense to me. No matter wether it was yours or not, just thought I'd let you know.

Okay, who is getting on the plane at the airport? Nice plane folks. Must be somebody important, huh?

By Lowell MO. on Thursday, February 24, 2005 - 05:53 pm:

I don't know how many others do this, But as I read down thru the messages I usually will put the different websites in my Favorites and then later browse thru them. Have found many interesting web-sites like that. And of course there is always something interesting to learn from each of them. Pasty.com is always a good place for some intersting info plus all the great pictures. When I was a Kid up there in the U.P. we used to like to go out skiing on the clear cold moonlight nights Kinda spooky in a way to be out in the woods like that. it was fun tho.

By sur5er on Thursday, February 24, 2005 - 06:59 pm:

Lowell,

Wow, thanks for the memory of skiing on full moon nights...glad to hear we weren't the only ones out there in the middle of the night. We used to go sledding in the middle on the night in the woods by the light of the full moon. A lot of city bred folks sorta give me a funny look when I talk about playing out in the snow in the late evening, like "Your parents let you do that?" and "but how can you see anything?" Oh well, I guess it adds to the excitement of the downhill ride, eh.

Just wanted to say hello to downstate don and Yooper, I missed your quick humor today. Wouldn't it be great if we all had one great big reunion this summer in the UP? When is Pasty Day, anyway? Gosh knows, I couldn't handle that snow any more.

Karen,

Great idea about us Pasty folks getting together in the UP. I plan to be up in the UP for the Mighty Mac Labor Day walk.

By Susan, Fl on Friday, February 25, 2005 - 12:39 am:

Norma in Midland....sorry to take so long replying to your question...have been off for a couple of days and just got back to catch up on Pastycam....weather down here is considerably warmer than it has been....mid 70's daytime and probably 60 ish at night. I have heard that we have a cold front coming through, but I don't think it's a big deal....if you're used to Michigan weather you probably won't need much more than a sweater! Hope you have a wonderful trip...you'll be just about and hour south of me.
Any more questions, just let me know....

By Kevin K. Lodi, Ca. on Friday, February 25, 2005 - 02:37 am:

Lowell and Sur5er,
I agree!
Nothing beats being out in the snow during a full moon. Everything has that spooky, shadow look to it. Then add the clear cold nights when the snow will squeek under ever step you take.
Brings back fond memories of growing up.How I miss those moon lit excursions.

'Cha cha cha' is a little victory slogan of mine from my law enforcement and criminal justice days. Just another form of "YES!" or 'alrighty now!':)

Does anyone have any good links where I could find some cool games to play, preferably free?

By sur5er on Saturday, February 26, 2005 - 01:37 am:

Kevin,

My neice, who is grown now, still remembers when I would wake her in the middle of the night and we would go outside and play in the snow, when she was young.

The one time she remembers with quite a bit of laughter: I was having problems with one of my neighbors...so my neice and I rolled this huge snow ball...about the size of a small compact car. When we were finished with it, we rolled it over to my neighbor's and wedged it up against the back bumper of his car.

The next morning, my neice and I sat at the breakfast table laughing, while our neighbor was unhappily stuck with the task of getting his car unstuck.

Troll,

Try www.gamehouse.com

Caution: Collapse is highly addictive.

Also, if you get yahoo instant messenger, they have a lot of free games on the messenger that you can play.
