I'm with you Brent......7:30 is way too early for this bird. Thats about the time I get up for mother nature and hurry back to bed hoping my spot is still warm for my last few hours of shut-eye. I'd rather fly with the owls then the sparrows.

Pretty crazy, 47 degrees at about 5pm last night
and I saw a mosquito outside here in Calumet!
Must be a hardy breed.

Alicia, That mosquito you saw last night was probably a new breed we have here called a snowsquito. It's a cross between a snow flea and a mosquito, and has the seasons mixed up and comes out in the winter or early spring. It sure can be pesty at times.

Let's cheer for those E-A-G-L-E-S! It is going to be a Super Game..

Has anyone read the new book "Wall of Silver " A Treasure Hunter's Dream, by Richard Kellogg yet?
I bought it yesterday at Copper World and it makes a facinating read. It is about a man, Jake Stockard who found a lost silver mine in the Cliff Mine area in 1927. A wall of solid siver about 90 feet long. I think this book will cause a stampede of prospectors to be out this spring looking for it. It is truly a well written and
thoroughly researched book.

"Going back to Central" by Lon Emrick is another good read to check out. Good history tidbits.

I have heard of the book, but that is one I haven't gotten to yet. I want to read it, sounds interesting.

Hmmm.....I wonder what you would call the flies that have been around also?! ;-) lol

Hi ya'll from the Super City Jacksonville FL. It is a great day here for the Super Bowl, nearing 70 and sunny skys. Hope everyone enjoys the game today. We like most locals will be watching the game from the comfort of our homes. Good luck to both teams, but we are cheering for the EAGLES!!

What is "Going back to Central" about? Is it referring to the town along US41 in Keweenaw?

Cheryl: It is "Central" in the Keewenaw. It is a journey from Green Garden south of Marquette to Central stopping at various towns along the way with some history about the stops. It's very well done. The book is an award winner from the Midwest Independent Publishers Assoc.

I was right. I thought that was Fred Mattila on the snowmobile, altho I haven't seen him for years. My parents farm was next to his parents farm. By the way, Hi Carl Kiilunen. I'm that Waara kid, your long lost cousin.

Does anyone remember? In the late 60's or early 70's, one of our neighbors while vacationing in the Ontonagon area, hooked a body of a drowned person while fishing off a dock in Ontonagon. Also my wifes cousin and her husband, (Carol and Joe Cronan) ran a grocery store in White Pine. It closed in the 80's when the economy went south. They moved to Wisconsin and both of them are deceased now. Does anyone remember them? Hey Helen, the pencil police are looking for you!
