This year's Winter Carnival theme is entitled, "A Frozen Commotion from the Depths of the Ocean" The commotion of the past month of statue building has come to an end, but there's still a clamoring of folks in and around the icy art, trying to get an eyeful and perhaps a picture or two. MTU student, Carl Schroeder does the snapping duty today, giving us a chance to view a few of the statues from the warmth and comforts of home. (Thanks, Carl!) The top shot is the 3rd place statue, 'Icy Blend of Spongebob and Friends', built by the Delta Sigs. And below, we have 'A City Once Lost Now Found in Frost', the 2nd place statue constructed by Tau Kappa Epsilon. First place in the competition was taken by Phi Kappa Tau with their statue depicting, 'Ariel Finds True Love With Icy Seas Above'. Congratulations to all the builders - now it's time to put on my longjohns and head out for a first-hand look at their handiwork!
That is so wonderful that you are having twins. Congrats :) Great that you are moving to the UP once the babies are born. How fortunate for them to grow up and be raised in the UP.
Over50: Turn on Nickeloneon some afternoon or evening and watch Spongebob...the cartoons are hilarious. My step daughter is addicted to Spongebob.

Just got back from MTU and seeing the sculptures. Simply amazing. I showed photos I took to my family and they want to go next year. Be back in the spring.

As a former Toivola native and a Michigan Tech alumnus, I really enjoy this Pasty site. The statues at Tech are terrific as usual. Thank you for the photos. Congratulations to all the hard working statue builders. Too bad I can't see them in person.

Nice work! Probably it has been a hard work for the builders. I regret being unable to see them in person. I have looked through many web cams and photos from Upper Peninsula. You have beautiful landscapes. I`d like to travel there some day. Greetings to you all from Finland!
